Angela Marino

just goes to show with an opportunity and the licence to let it fly anything is possible, everytime i check the stats she is like 3 or 4 of atleast 17 or 18 shots, not much of a point guard id say. plenty of better guards in SA than that.

Probably says that her team is struggling to score without Lauren Jackson more than anything.

She is 7th in the league in ast at 3.6 and has scored double figures in all WNBL game that she has played in. Name another 18 year old doing that or better this year.

Joyrama,
]Pull your head in. You are Probably just another player that has never and will never do anything with there basketball. She deserves everything that she has got. Angela has worked hard to get where she has got.

Youraporn,

I think you're being more than a little harsh on young Angela.

Through 5 games this season, she is averaging 14.4ppg, 4.6rpg & 3.6apg. She is shooting 27% but I think you'll find that right now, she's their 'bail out' option and is shooting quite a few shots under pressure as the shot clock is running out.

For a girl who was by-passed by the AIS to be averaging those numbers as an 18 year old is quite an achievement, Id suggest.

We should be applauding her for her performance, not trying to bring her down.

I don't see that there are many (actually, I personally don't see any) guards in SA who are capable of doing what Angela is right now.

i will take a little of the blame for angelas bad shot percentage. as a young player growing up in the country we used to train together, and as she was marginally shorter than me, i could jump and get her shots, forcing her to shoot higher than what she should. OOOPS... sorry angela

So you're telling me Irene is better suited to be a starting PG on a WNBL team? I think not.

Besides, Irene is what, 25 now? Angela has 7 years on her!

Even tho as a young player, Angela and i used to be arch rivals and didnt even get along very well when we played State together in UNder 14's, i believe she has put in the effort 10 times over and has finally gotten what she has deserved- a spot in a WNBL side. She is one of the toughest opponents anyone will ever meet and i think she deserves much more recognition and credit.

Well I would think once Angela finishes her Law Degree and starts practising as a lawyer she will be earning a little more that all WNBL players. Just face SOUPNAZI you jealous of Angela's success. Why dont you go back o the kitchin where you belong. I can'tstand people who bag people for working hard and succeeding. You are obviously a nobody wanting to be a somebody. Maybe you should ring Angela and ask her how you become somebody!

I'd say Tom Maher has a fairly decent understanding of what it takes to become an elite player.

Angela, while doing IMO quite well for a rookie still has much to improve upon (and I'm a big fan). But given that she is only 18 years old how good will she be by the time she turns 25 if she keeps up her well know hard working attitude.

Plus IMO as a European citizen she has the potential to go to Europe now and make more than somebody like Irene because she is an Olympian who did extremely well. Are you so foolish to believe that the Italian league hasn't noticed her performance at the Olympics?

Angela as a junior was always so far ahead of all of us (the opposition) - you can't trap her in the backcourt, her timing is immaculate, her smarts are incredible, she is only 18 and a rookie yet is starting PG in a WNBL side - go Ang, doin us all proud back home!

So, given that Marino started for Sturt in 2005 and 2006, and won the Grand Final MVP* on the winning team, what the hell is Yogee talking about?

* I would've given it to Hannah Bowley, but Marino scored well in that game.

A lot of people also wonder how she got the MVP as she wasn't the reason they won, with the big girls ripping it early for sturt.
She's a good NZ / Italian /Mars player with time on her side to keep improving but hoop adict you need to get out more if you don't think there are better guards coming through who are a more complete package than Angela.

More like 21 this year than 18....surely? A determined player who was an absolute sook as a junior - as soon as she was beaten she'd fake an injury or be 'unwell' - but not cause she wasn't outstanding in her age group but just couldn't handle not be the centre of attention. Fall marks to her though, with the amazing opportunity given to her a few years back by T Maher, her game and attitude are now a credit to her. Go Marino!

I can only assume those might've been games where Sturt played Woodville.

25 June 05, Sturt vs Woodville. Marino started and had 21 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals.

24 April 05, Sturt vs Woodville. Marino started and had 24 points and 8 rebounds.

15 July 06, Sturt vs Woodville. Marino came off the bench for 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

7 May 06, Sturt vs Woodville. Marino started and had 16 points and 4 steals.

Three starts, once off the bench. Her "worst" game was 16 points in 20 minutes. Not a single Warrior got into double-figures that game and the margin was 29 points, so you'd assume Marino was benched early. You might want to revisit your earlier comment: "If she is so good, why cant she start on an ABA team?"

See earlier point about her 21 points in the grand final against Forestvlle (top shelf opposition). Also note that these recent comments were addressing Yogee's remark about Marino not starting.

I can appreciate that Marino has some critics (low-percentage from the field, bit prone to jacking it up), but IMO she seems to do OK - top ten in assists per game in 2006, and led the Sabres in scoring, assists, second in steals, etc.

Point taken. In my mind I would think Erin Lorenzini's output in the ABA is better then Angela's. (By the way, is the timing of the posts on the RHS pre daylight savings time?)
