Kevin Garnett approaches 18k, 10k, 4k

With five more assists, Kevin Garnett will become one of five players in NBA history to have accumulated at least 18,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 4,000 assists.

Ahead of him on that list? Kareem (38,387 points to KG's 18,166), the Mailman, Wilt and Charles Barkley.

It's not my place to detract from the looming milestone, but any regular reader of ESPN's Daily Dime knows that ESPN Research can come up with a milestone for just about anyone - next up, so-and-so becomes the 10th player in history to score x points, y rebounds, shoot .zzz from the field and have a personal chef with orange pants.

Anyway, who else would you expect to come close to that list?

I wondered about Shaq, but he has 24,820 points, 11,112 rebounds and 2,627 assists.

Also thought that LBJ might be on track for it, but while he's averaging 2,000+ points a year and around 500 assists per year, he's looking to take about 18-20 years to get the required rebounds.

Paul Pierce would need another 10-12 seasons or so. Same with Shawn Marion. Kobe Bryant is a couple of years short of the assist mark, but well short on rebounds with just 3,835 in 11 seasons.

I thought Magic might have come close, he was about 300 short in the points department, 3500 robounds shy but had more than 10,000 assists. Maybe ESPN research can whip up a new category of 17k points, 6k boards and 10k assists.

INteresting that Jordan wouldn't make either of these obscure landmarks but would be one of just a handful to make the 32k, 6k, 5k team.

Would Jason Kidd be very short on rebounds?

Kidd, 15 seasons, 13,257 points, 5,984 rebounds and 8,320 assists. So, about 4-6 years off on points and probably about the same on rebounds.

Even tho the landmark is obscure, the fact that so many other greats have not or will not reach it, suggests a pretty awesome effort on KG's behalf

Nowitski could get there as well

14277 pts
5538 rebounds
1650 assists

I thought Oscar Robertson would have done it (after averaging a triple double in one season), but it seems his rebounds dropped off toward the end of his career.

I think Kidd's production will start to drop off and he won't get it. Nowitski looks good to do it...

While we are on obscure records:
thedoctor is quietly approaching the 1300R (replies), 50TS (topics started) and 20BI (basketball icons) landmark, a feat that has only been matched by Isaac himself.
