Maher turns down Euro offer

36ers captain Brett Maher has turned down a three month opportunity in Latvia this off-season.

Maher's agent was contacted by Gundars Vetra, a former Latvian NBA player and now coach of the BC Barons, keen to utilise his playmaking and long-range shooting skills in both the Latvian Championship and Baltic BBL.
Boti's article makes only a brief mention of it

Maher's second daughter was born only a short time ago and so the timing was not appropriate.

What? No sarcasm intended.

I think Maher is a star. One of the most underated players ever in this league.

Hey, we should think ourselves lucky with the timing of Brett's second child , dont worry about Europe he could of signed for a rival NBL club in Australia.

Soulman, I don't think he would've moved to another club unless the negotiations here were dire, and the 36ers were always going to make a solid effort to keep him.

Especially by Barry Barnes and Brian Goorjian...

"New Zealand or Singapore?"

Wouldn't either of those teams get in SERIOUS trouble by the NBL, if they had made an offer to Maher?

The NBL doesn't hand out fines based on assumptions/guesses/rumours.

The NBL doesn't hand out fines based on evidence either...

Why would New Zealand or Singapore get in trouble if they tried to sign Maher??

No club can talk with a player before a specific point in time, unless that player has been released by their club to do so.

However, it is fairly common - a club can talk to a partner, sibling, parent, agent, friend; or a player from one team can talk to one from another team, etc. Very, very difficult to police.
