Top Ten Basketball Commercials

Bloggers on the net love their Top Ten lists. Here's one a few people here might find interesting:

The water spilling over the sink, the bike falling, the half-shaved man and all the people staring as if the rest of the world just stopped - priceless. The idea that the world stopped when Jordan played really isn't that far off. There was something magnetic about Jordan that intrigued the most casual basketball fans. There was this aura that no matter what happened, Jordan wasn't going to lose. Jordan was as close to invincibility that we are going to ever see on this earth. I'm sorry I need a minute ... ... ... I love that one where everyone imitates the greatest moments of MJ.

Some old school classics
Barkley opera commercials
Bird vs Jordan in H.O.R.S.E(nothing but net)
Larry Johnson and Grandmamma
Jordan and Spike Lee

and my all-time favourite, Happy Feet starring the Muppets, "I Love This Game".

"Everybody has signature plays in their career but how good do the plays have to be that little kids can act them out and immediately everyone understands what's going on. I can't think of any of the superstars today, Melo, Lebron, Gilbert, Kobe who combined have the kinds of plays that Jordan had in his career. Of course those guys are still young so maybe when it's all said and done they will. The only thing that comes close is probably D-Wade's free throws. You could put any kid on the free throw line and if he's making his free throws then you know you are watching a D-Wade commercial."

Ha! So true.

Loved the Reebok Blacktop commercials, and the original Shaq commercial with Wilt, Russel, Kareem and Walton. Makes me think of the opening of Saturday Basketball....

I still think 'The Stomp' is the best. Has anyone got a copy of the Gumby Version?

I reckon a few of the newer ones show the age of the writer.

Personally, i'd love to have seen the HORSE commercials "nothing but net", or Spike Lees "It's gotta be the shoes" up there.
