Worried about Sixers List......

What if Schenscher and Newley both make NBA or go to Europe, we can fill one position with an import, but what about the other one?? Does Phil have a back up plan, are we putting all our eggs in one basket??

I think you will find that the team wont be that much different from last year by the time the first shot is fired in anger...

Don't worry, we have Nash!

And we'll probably re-sign Copeland, Timmons, and convince Wheeler back for another season (and pay him 100K)

There seems to be a consensus out
there that Newley will not get drafted into the NBA.
Unless Newley has a European passport then he would have to play in Europe as an import - they tend to prefer big players of ex NBA players - where does that leave Brad.
It would seem that he may have to stay in the NBL.
Did he make a mistake by not going to a College team and trying to get into the NBA via that direction???

Only if you consider earning a good salary in his home country and representing his nation at an international level as a mistake! Will be interesting to see what happens.

A mistake in terms of his life...probably, Yes. But whats done is done, its just very hard to get to the NBA from the NBL, simple fact. I hope he comes to Adelaide but i dont see it as a great chance becasue we just dont have enough cash/pulling power.

I agree......Newley wont be playing NBA next year, but you are forgetting that he already has an offer to play in Europe. Therefore, you would think someone is interested in him as an import??

Dr - 36ers have cash and his family/friends are here - that's pulling power.

i hate this college is shit, come straight to the nbl attitude. for a players development it really isnt the way to go if they want to play in the nba or europe.
my personal belief is that if you are good enough to play college go, and come back in four years with a degree. sure you wouldnt be earning in those four years but in the long run i think its the right choice.

Going by your grammar and language you decided to skip a college education to stick it out with an NBL program.

I also clearly bailed on a college education ...

You know what I do for a living, think I need a college degree for this?

Isaac.....what is the timeframe the Sixers have given themselves to secure Newleys signature?

Also, dont feel confident that the Sixers are basing all their hopes on these 2 as they have bigger fish to fry!!

Having said that, would be great to see them both in a Sixers jersey this season!!

Anon, no idea - sorry. Realistically, even if they get a signature tomorrow, it will have outclauses and is still a risk.

Sixers need a good backup plan.

Sixers should look at:

Kane Oakley (As backup SF)
Adam Caporn (Starting SF)
Scott McGregor (Starting SF)
Cameron Rigby (Starting SF/backup PF)
Phil Jones
Pero Cameron (Starting SF)

Adam Caporn is a PG! Cam Rigby didn't start for the Pigs last season - why would you want him starting here?

Isn't Caporn a PG? Besides, none of those guys would be an upgrade on what we had at the 3 last season. We should go after Liam Rush, we probably should be more interested in him than Newley.

Out of those guys i wouldnt mind Phil Jones, Rush, Rigby or Mcgregor off the bench,(maybe Jones or Rush starting if we cant get anyone else, but definatly not my first preference) but im not sure about someone like Oakley is he really a upgrade on Nash or Majstro?? he is a bit bigger and a different style of player which may mean he would be a better option, depending on what type of role they want from him.
If we miss out on Schenscher i reckon we should go after Derek Moore and Ben Melmeth and maybe even Pepper pretty hard, maybe we could sign 1 of them as well as Schenscher??? could Ballinger play the 3 spot ala Redhage??? and i also wouldnt mind them looking at LArry Davidson, Crosswhite, Sheridan, Burston (if he can stay healthy, bit risky??), Andrew Rice and Tony Rampton. Obviously Newley and Schenscher are top priority but if we miss out on them i wouldnt mind seeing the guys i mentioned in 36ers uniforms

Yeah I dunno what 123abc is on about with that Sixers list! but I agree with Twenty Four our best option is to go after Liam Rush before Newley. The simple reason is because Newley will either go to Europe or the NBA while Liam Rush wont be going anywhere for years if at all. and to help bring a championship to Adelaide in the short term I think they will provide equal chances.

It was a list of the players who the Sixers could go for. Apologies on Caporn. How many others would be suitable for the Sixers?

Heard some more strong rumours coming out of tassie the last few days that Nash is leaning towards retirement...

I just think he has lost his hunger and passion for the game IMO.

VERY high risk on Newley and Schensh, could work great if it goes to plan but will be the end for Phil if it backfires......

It's pretty simple when it comes to Luke and Newley.

If we get sign them up and they accuatly suit up for us, brilliant.. a huge step in getting the Sixers contending for a championship.

If we don't get them, then basically I see it as another very long season ahead.

There's huge risk in it, but honestly I'm glad the Sixers are taking a crack at it.

atleast they are trying, this time last year we were screaming they were not trying hard enough, by the end of the season we wanted them to approach and try as hard as they can to recruit them, now where complaining there going to hard for them, seriously wtf

maybe they should look at more than three players. What happens if we don't get Newley or Schenscher.

Sixers are trying, well done.I applaud them for it.

after last years lack of talking to anyone other then dads army,

i for one are at least happy they are making a considerable effort, and as for not communicating with the fans doesnt concern me if you where negotiating the contract and told the fans we are offering X to player X for X years and then 24 hours later X decides the offer from another club is better and renigs on it then you would be having a go at the club about announcing it before its happend ,

and besides contracts could be waiting for the nbl to approve them which has to be done before ANY release can be made
