Aaron Olson retires, abandons contract

NZ Breaker shooting guard Aaron Olson has announced his retirement from basketball.

The 29-year-old sharp-shooter says his heart isn't in the sport at the moment and he is returning to his native Canada to determine his future.

Breakers coach Andrej Lemanis says Olson's departure with two years left on his contact definitely leaves a hole in the squad.

Leaves the Breakers in a difficult position!

True re Kersten.

Their options are to start Henare again, back him up with Kersten; then get a SG import:

Henare/Kersten
Import/Charleton
Forman/?
Ronaldson/Vukona
Import/Behrendorff

But that's a bottom four side IMO.

Might be better off running two imports as guards and convincing Derek Moore to play in the middle. Or just replace Olson with Phill Jones or Kirk Penney if they can convince them. Or Bradshaw.

What a massive loss! Is this a Mal Michael...?
He can hoop, this is a big loss for the Breakers.
This wont be the end of him, he'll be back.

Don't think this is that big a loss. At times last season, his heart didn't seem to be in it, the term 'gone missing' was closely attached to his game! The Breakers don't have to pay him, so that money can be thrown at another guard....depending on the points cap, if this had happened a month ago, Harvey could've been a Breaker. That couldve been a HUUUGE pick up for NZ.
