Bring it on - payback for abuse

Abusive parents face fines of up to $200k in junior sport.
Wow - now the hip pocket woul dhave to start to have an impact, you'd think?

In an attack which shocked many, two parents attacked a coach when he intervened to protect a teenage referee at an under-10 rugby league game in Logan, south of Brisbane.

The men were banned for life and charged with assault.

In another incident a month later, spectators at Ipswich, west of Brisbane, chased a 15-year-old rugby league referee with steel bars.

(Mod: You might want to re-read the article - there are no fines mentioned?)

Not exactly. It is a $200k campaign, there is no indication at all of any sanctions against abusive parents apart from a red card. All this does is require the parent to leave the event, a procedure we already have in place here in SA basketball.
But in any case, fines or no fines, any program to stamp out this sort of behaviour is a positive step.
