124-89 loss. Visit www.seabl.com.au for more info - though there's nothing there as yet.

No Jamal Brown and no Braith Cox for Geelong. Stayed with them for majority of 1st quarter but all of sudden looked like some of them didnt care and Geelong just punished them. It was over 1 min into 2nd quarter. From where i sat it looked as if "coaches" were disinterested.
Second half the players were much better but when your 25+ down the game is over. Positives i thought was the play of Dallas and Lewis who both tried hard. Dallas should have been given more looks, he was shooting well. Mason and Wilson both in the dog house, werent given the opportunity.
Geelong would be the best team Ive seen play outside of the NBL in many years. They have 7 players that could be 20+ scorers and stars on other teams but they play excellent, unselfish team basketball. They were very impressive.

Jamal Brown played, just lost a handful of teeth in the opening quarter after impacting with Lewis's elbow off a rebound.
He spent the rest of the game in hospital.

As for Cox Braith Whoooooooo?

"From where i sat it looked as if "coaches" were disinterested."

Well documented problem for the Pioneers since they selected a long term local to the coaching bench with no SEABL/NBL experience (coaching 12 yr olds apparently makes you qualified) but nothing has changed. A few cheap wins against bottom teams and everyone is talking up finals and the coach can hide away without coaching. Play the pressure teams and coach has no idea.

Their sense of team and defence is not there and the coach seems to think that basketball is all about just putting up shots because that is what has been happening most of the season.
Looks great to the average supporter who can't work out what goes wrong when they play real competition. Against low ranking teams you can get away with it but against quality he leaves his most solid defenders in Wilson and Mason on the bench, guess because their shooting stats aren't up there? Well they aren't shooters but Wilson controls the PG role with poise, changes his opponent's game in a quiet non flashy no nonsense manner, although isn't given the opportunity. Mase is a role player who if used in short bursts hassles, hustles and takes his player out of the game in a very in your face manner but don't expect him to shoot either.
Dallas has improved himself this year, actually throwing some assists.
A smart coaching unit would have by now worked out where and when to use all 10 players to the advantage of the team.
Know your players and play them as if you are playing a top team every week. Not a lot to expect at this level.
But the club will blame the players, keep the coaching staff as is on board and talk it up as 2007.2008 season being rebuilding still.
They are only a player or two off of being competitive under the right team coach but they are a galaxy away from having a coaching bench with the standard of knowledge and skills required that will unite the group.
