hey Anonymous, very original post well done!

and glen you should get an award...greatest comeback of all time!

Guys, you certainly dont have to be a WNBL credited coach to know how to run a simple post play!

I sort of have to agree with Spazzy on this one. It's not hard to run a post play especially when you have some good, quality bigs.

One of the reasons why Canberra knocked them off in the semi's last year. Lucas butchered that game with some very ordinary coaching, plays and match-ups.

It's a good signing, but the road to the championship still has to come through Canberra.

pretty good line up - amgela marino is a cert now.

awesome guard rotation and plenty of inside players = championship.

i would not like to be a deep bench player - have to get your minutes elsewhere

yeah..i remember when rasmussen was faking her injury that spazzy was the only one to defend her, and made some claim to being a good friend, or more....

so i guess someones view is a bit tainted.

bit touchy arent we. wonder why?

Let's keep it on topic please.

With Adelaide retaining their key players and signing Camino (gun young player), Whittle (Opal) and now Wilkins (import), while only (seemingly) letting Rasmussen go, I wondered if they were really spending up this season. Word is that this season's roster is cheaper than that of last year!?

Anonymous...yes i am a friend of Kristen and her husband Jamie.

i take exception to the things you are infering in your post...be very careful what you post.

Issac can confim that my IP address is and has always been an australian IP address.

faking her injury hey, what the hell do you know...obviously you are some little waste of space that has never acheived anything in life and come on here and post crap like that against someone who is living the life you really wanted...

no professional sportsperson is going to fake an injury that may in the long run have a detrimental effect on any future work.

Bit of a shame that you had to derail a perfectly valid thread about a new player because of your grudge.

Sorry Isaac, i really do hope the girl does well, and that Lucas uses her effectively...last season was a little frustrating...spose we really need to be positive for the new season...
anyone know if cherie smith's ankle is ok?
she was injured in the west nwd game last week...didnt look too good at all?
has she signed with the lightning yet?

Isaac

is it possible that the players we have signed are as excited as what the fans are?

We have some great established players, so great new players with many years of league and rep basketball, and the chance to play under the national coaches nose (as Jan Stirling is at most games)...

I think we have a great team this year that will once again push into the play offs, and might even be able to get that elusive championship.

I know Chris quite well and I hope they don't win because he has only ever done well with talent filled sides. He needs to produce in some tough situations. Only problem is that his ego cant tough it out. I was also talking to someone in Townsville on Friday who said Renee was quite disruptive there last year. Good luck.

Why would you say that?
There is no point to your statement!
He HAS a talent filled side and they will be very tough to play.
Don't forget as a team , he and Jack Gilles are very astute. They have been dealing with egos for a very long time now.

Good luck I say, they will be great to watch this season and I for one will be paying the entrance fee to watch.

This is the best lineup since the Sporn and Brogan days.

Dr D, I think you mean John Gillies not Jack. Is John going to do the job again? I heard he wasn't, be good if he does. I think you'll find also Paul was talking about Chris's ego not the players. Whatever Paul means by that I have no idea. Can only speculate.

dr damage - it is a public forum - so paul can say that if they want to.

renee has had a lot of early success and with houston keen to see her over stateside - she may have the ego to match - maybe a bit of mentoring from jan may bring her back to earth.

adelaide deserve to win - they have been on the money for a championship for a few years now and it is time to collect.

Dont think Chris will have a problem if he doesnt run a post play for her. Seen her play and she aint a fan of the paint and soft on inside in D for her size. Think Oscar Foreman, but with a much less dependable 3pt shot. Lovely girl tho with a solid work ethic.

It will be an interesting season to say the least. 8 starting 5's all wanting 30 plus minutes per game. Who to sit on the bench, this is the question. Marino when Phillip returns, will Ang be happy with 3 or maybe 5 minutes a game. Foley for Camino, or is that Camino for Foley. Sammy to sit for Whittle or the new girl or even perhaps play in the 4 or 3. Now what to do with Gahan 3,4 or perhaps 2 but where does that leave Smith,Duke,King etc. Great problem for the coach to have but let's be honest, it is a problem and has Chris got the goods to handle the people issues. What will happen when they all start complaining about their court time. It's one thing to make all his usual promises but sooner rather than later it's going to blow up in his face.

6th man
Years ago

Don't think that Smith will be signed.

Team at the moment looks like

Phillips/?Marino?
Camino/King
Foley/Duke
Gahan/Woosnam
Whittle/Wilkins

?local junior (Mansfield)
?local junior (Fryters)

You need a backup point for while Phillips is out. Mansfield is in the Aus Junior Squad and is performing well. She would probably be groomed as the backup for when Phillips goes to Europe.

Fryters looks to be the best young backup big in the comp. Insurance for somebody to be injured. Give her a chance to prove if she can make the step up.

Marino is playing well and would be fine while Philips gets healthy, if it takes a while then your not in trouble.

When all are fit and healthy, nobody needs to play more than 25 minutes. If you aren't playing well or doing the right thing you sit. If Woosnam is playing and training better than Gahan she starts, or vise-versa. Same for Wilkins and Whittle.

Great depth, so play up tempo and get everyody in and out so you can maintian intensity. Run other teams off the court.

Comm'n Lightning bring home a championship to Titletown.

Mansfield would be a good fit for the first half of the season 6th man.
They said the same about the Bullets last season, so it will be how well the time is distributed.
This a great group, I hope they do well and stay together for 3-4 years.

Dozza,

Given Whittles age (no offence meant to her, but she is at the ending of her career, not the beginning), don't you think maybe she will come off the bench for Sammy, and not the other way around?

I personally thought she would be more the bench centre, coming in for Wilkins.

what about erin lorenzini ?
she has been waiting patiently done nothing wrong and you all write her out of the squad.

anyway - we all the know the team will only go 8-9 deep for playing time.

Vogee, that was exactly my point. Do you really think Whittle signed with Adelaide to play off the bench. What about Camino, do you really think she left Townsville's starting 5 to play off the bench. Do you think Gahan would be happy to return to Adelaide knowing she would not be in the starting 5 and get 30 minutes per game and what about Foley. She certainly doesn't deserve less minutes and to be the back up to Camino. Sammy deserves more respect as well and so does King. Angela (and lets stop kidding ourselves) she's coming, she got big minutes with Canberra and left when she didn't, do you really think she won't complain if she doesn't get minutes. Then there is Erin Lorenzini, she deserves something, she has been patient for 3 seasons, surely she shouldn't have to sacifice her bball career again just to make things easy for a coach that makes to many promises to too many players.
