now a comment here -

this is on the same weekend as the Southern tigers Hoopla.

Now instead of being in conflict - why dont they work together - and make the most of a limited resource ??

i would not be too worried about playing 1 day in the bridge and 1 day morphett vale - keep things interesting.

share the refs etc - and get the country / city mix

That is a fair point.

But, has the Hoopla been an annual event?

The Murray Bridge carnival has been held on the long weekend for the past three years, so since the answer to the above question is 'no', then id say it was Southerns position to approach MB...

yes - bridge were on first and hoopla is trying to establish.

so yes - tigers need to chat with MBBA

hopefully a combo may happen - I would have no problems with games at murray bridge / barker and morphett vale - but not in one day

Silly idea.

It would halve the revenue for both associations. They are targetting different markets, and as is, offer twice as much basketball. If one struggles, then natural market forces will dictate that there is only room for one carnival per weekend, otherwise, it's good for basketball that there are two seperate carnivals on the same w/end!

Southern will not attract anyone, so it is a pointless debate. Murry Bridge has been running successfully for a while and i think it is quite rude of Southern to be trying to start another one in competition. It will end up just like the one they tried to start last July, Dead!

Typical this should end up Southern bashing- the club was merely trying to find a time to start a carnival and most of the best times are already taken. Time was taken in seeking not to conflict but its almost inevitable.

You had a carnival in July that was well supported. So why go and try and take another clubs spot when you ruined your original one.

From all accounts, they are targeting different clubs/teams so i don't think they are in *direct* competition.

The Muzza carnival attracts country associations primarily (Millicent, Mt G, Mildura?) while the Southern carnival must be after the district clubs. I can't see any country connection down south aside from Great Southern (who last year attended the Muzza carny anyway).

According to their information that they are promoting that the top country associations are trying to be attracted so that is a conflict.

Last year there was all country teams apart from Woodville 18B1 and a 14B and i cant remember if Centrals 18Bs went.
(Mildura hasnt come down, neither did Riverland.)

And the Woodville div one boys only managed to win the division two GF.

Muzza are trying to engage more city teams as it is the ideal time of year to trial your players in the mix for div 1 selection.
And plus it's 45 mins down the freeway, plenty to see and why not relax by the river?

Muzza has a reputation for being well organised, high standard of refereeing and good competition.

So metro teams... come and take on the country!

Tell southern to go stick it and leave the hillbillies alone - That way it won't be stuffed up. That mob could not run a chook raffle let alone a hooooooooplaaaaaa. Let the bridge keep its river running smoothly as it is a good event.
