Transition from Juniors to Seniors

Just looking for some advice from a few people without this turning into a slanging match, or people pumping up their own clubs/people putting down other clubs if we can help it.

How does your club, ensure that enough of your junior players are coming through to play senior basketball for you?

Do you have rules on having only a certain amount of players from outside the club?
Do you have a rule you need a certain amount of your clubs junior players in the teams?
What constitutes a junior from your club? Someone who has played a certain amount of seasons there?

Am interested in the feedback. Thanks.

The stronger the club the more out standing the junior players have to be to get a game or more correctly minutes.
Several clubs have an abundance of junior talent and very strong senior teams which means most will miss out on the ABL/ABA unless they are prepared to move to a weaker club.
As the standard below ABL is ordinary in women and slightly better in mens playing there may not be a satisfying experience so the best advice is to speak to your head senior coach and ask for an honest assessment and if it is not the one you want , at least you can start looking around for other opportunities.
The saddest part in all this is that most settle for second best and either play below their standard or quit basketball altogether because they are too afraid to move.

Am from Vic, so will give you a perspective from the other side of the border. We have our main competitions for the clubs first teams, and then have a youth league for the second teams. The idea of this league is that there is only allowed 3 players above the age of 23. This is not enforced however and some clubs may choose to play more.

The initial idea of the youth league was not to win as such, but to develop players coming up from juniors, and hopefully push them up into the clubs first side. Unfortunately there are a number of clubs that let winning get in the way of that, and bring in older players, which consequently take up the place of a junior. Not an ideal system at all, mind you some clubs are using this very well.

In answer to your other questions, my club doesnt have any rules in regards to how many juniors they need in their team, or how much they have to play, or if players needed to have played their juniors at the club.

Hope this answers some questions for you.
