Total 377
All in all;

Still a widening difference between the top 4 and the bottom 4, with Southern and West somewhere in the middle.

Sturt are maintaining their position. Boys a bit up, Girls a bit down.

North are the real improver, Great percentage of teams in the finals.

Norwwod have dropped 5 teams but have improved their quality.

Forestville have droppewd a bit, not enough to get worried, same amount of teams 5 less finals. Girls are doing well, boys need some improvements.

Southern are the same as Norwood. Not much change, perhaps a bit more quality.

West have dropped of a bit. Boiys especially are down on where they were a couple of years ago.

South are down too. 10 less teams and not a real improvement in quality.

Woodville are a little down, but not much change in their percentage.

Eastern and Centrals have both had a big decrease in numbers but still get a similar amount of finals. Easterns girls are doing especially well.

The one thing that is a concern is that we ave decreased the number of teams by 32.

South, Eastern and Centrals need to change the number of teams they are entering or they will continuie to struggle.

The bigger concern is that 19 of the 32 teams that we have lost are girls teams. The players are leaving the weaker clubs rather than moving to the stronger clubs. So are the girls playing netball, soccer or not playing sport at all?

Working on the assumption that they go to netball or football. They also have to pay fees, uniforms etc plus money they conservatively support to the club with throughout the season.
Basketball has lost over $150,000 with the loss of the 32 teams. With this money going to other sports. Wonder why we struggle for the $$$$
Ok you can do it the other way. Not counting the outlays that occur to basketball SA, court rental etc. a club like sturt with 48 teams would bring in conservatively over the $230,000 per year

But you MUST count the outlay, particuarly court rental which is massive. The bigger the club, the more the court rental. I'm positive Sturt, like most (all?) other clubs, do not make huge profits.

I think that they are saying BSA takes $230K from Sturt families over the counter and in nomination fees. Not that Sturt makes $230K!

There has to be some questions asked about the viability of some of these clubs and whether or not they should be allowed to continue.

Centrals for example have 9 boys teams and 4 girls down from previous years. They have no U10s coming through in either area and their best performing team is U20/1 boys. 2 of the teams are U 20s so does this mean a further reduction next year. In total, on the boys side they won 36 games out of 168: 3 teams not winning one game.

Eastern participation re number of teams is well down and South, on the surface of it, is also showing a sizeable reduction in number of teams participation.

Does BSA allow this to contniue. Should they review plans of some of these clubs and how they intend to improve participation in there region. Do they give them an ulimatum to improve in a certain time frame, with the support of BSA, or be excluded from the Div 1 scene and be treated as another Magic or Torrens Valley.

I am sure there are good people at these clubs working to be successful, no-one works to be unsuccessful, however there doesn't seem to be the results showing for this effort.

Should this be allowed to continue?

I'd suggest that is a recipe for a six team competition.

BSA might have to spend a few of the bucket loads of $$$ they are taking from junior parents at the moment to promote the game and support struggling clubs. Or use the funds to cut the cost of playing so all clubs can attract players that are currently put off by the cost.

How does Sturt "maintain their overall position" when their Girls side has dropped from 1st to 3rd (and nearly 4th), yet other clubs who have shown a smaller drop, you rate as "dropped a bit".

If you want to be a true statistician, remove your bias and analyse fairly and equally. But great work on breaking it all down.

Back to the bananas for me.

Pretty sure it's not Paul M - first of all, why would he randomly pick u16 girls, secondly, I'm sure he knows you can't have a winning % > 100!

Stadium Monkey,

Other things that come into play wwhen assessing the stats are things like.

Performance of Div 1 and div 2 teams compared to div 2 teams.

1/ Sturt unfortunatley still have the most teams in finals. I consider this to be base criteria for position, not percentage. Percentage comes into play if any 2 or more clubs have an equal number of teams in finals.

2/ Sturt, Forestville and North have a large percentage of div 1 and 2 teams in finals.

3/ The number of double div 2 teams a club has is importtant. Clubs with multiple div 2 teams have more players, competiting at a higher level and therefore have a greater chance of not making finals. But I would consider this means that they are still perorming well.

4/ Expecting any club to maintain 19 out of 21 is unrealistic. As good as North has done in the girls this season, dropping to 80% next season would not be a large drop off. Merely a small dip back to a realistic level.
