Maher on reduced training schedule

36ers captain Brett Maher has sat out a couple of trainings this week as a precaution over a strained calf.

The 36ers are preparing to host the undefeated Melbourne Tigers at the Dome this Friday night.

Maher is still expected to play in the game.

When I heard this it made me laugh after seeing Smyth's "policy" only last week.
"After all, during Phil Smyth's 10-year tenure as Sixers' boss, the team policy with injured players has been they must train freely for a week before being considered for selection."
I don't think this policy has ever been in place and I wondered how long into this season it would be thrown out the window!!!

Bit more injury news:

Rosell Ellis is in doubt for tonight's game - Crocs vs Kings - after injuring chest muscles at a weights/stretching session on Monday. Could be a late decision on whether or not to play him.

As mentioned in another thread, Martin Cattalini is out for at least six weeks due to a knee injury.

Sam Mackinnon has a back injury but could still play against the Hawks on Friday night. His Bullets have just returned from a three game series in China. He only played in the first of the three games. Dillon Boucher skipped the third game also.

Chris Anstey, meanwhile, has recovered from a serious injury to his patriotism during the off-season to win POTW for Round 1...

Oops, seems like that Ellis injury is season-ending - that sucks for the Crocs!

Correct Panther, sounds tough and 'in charge' but is mere talk. Going by that Brett would not play this week. The disrespect shown to baketball fans amazes me.

How did Chappell pull up after last week? Will he be right to go again this week?

Haven't heard anything so I'd assume they'll play him.

With Maher and Davidson, we can match the Tigers at guard and finally have the height to at least try and stop them in the paint. SF is where it's dangerous - they have Thomas, Barlow and Hoare who can all spend time there. We have Chappell and ...? I wondered last week if they'd run Ballinger as SF, but must just not suit him as much?

We'll need a big game from Dench both offensively and on D. But more than likely he'll get burned down low if left there too long!

Hey Panther,
Perhaps you should listen i heard Smyth say this week on radio that with the new fitness guy being full time they have been able to reveiw that guideline re week on court. He also said the week idea was a guide not hard and fast pending on the injury Marsy is on a revised program and wont practice every session so instead of knocking do your research first.Sixers looked great last week a bit of time and they are in for a top season go Sixers

Only 1 week into the season and already a multitude of injuries across the board. How many are going to be left standing by the end of the season? Its a worry.

EC, you are a bit of a negative one aren't you? Stop getting all bent out of shape and show some support. It's a sport, and injuries are a natural part of it. There isn't a team in the NBL right now without injuries. Sounds like you just want something to complain about. So glad you aren't in a position of power or we'd all be sorry for your hastiness.
