Actually...they did not have enough money to ensure they could complete the season, and so they decided not to field a team.

Currently, the owners of the Giants still own the l;icense, there are some talks the license may be transferred to Geelong to bring the comp back to 12 teams.

There is also talk of a Gold Coast team being ready to go soon.

could say that the geelong story has been around for soooooooooooooo long that if it every did happen i'd walk to melbourne backwards. but never saying never i don't believe it will ever happen.

gold goast! can qld hand 4 teams cairns, townsville, brisbane and gold goast, with hunter not that far down the road then two in sydney and another in woolongong call my cynical but i don't think so.

i also thought it a bit unrelatistic reporting by Boti this morning when he said that numbers were down in adelaide which they are, but that the west sydney game had 14,000+ which it did he failed to mention that it was simply because of the globetrotters. after all west sydney fail to get 3,000 to games normally.

How many people went to the Globetrotters game in Adelaide on Sunday? DC, you went. How many?

I never really saw it advertised and certainly haven't heard any reports since the game.

We would love to get a team up here (Gold Coast) Biasbinding.

The NRL has just shafted the coast by not putting a leage team up here after all reports said it was a foregone conclusion. I know it has ben tried before but with the population up here growing as fast as it is I believe that a team - if marketed properly could be successful. Id be there for all the games!!

What about a Tassie team?

Don't think 4 in QLD is a good idea, agree with comments above.

Another from Perth (Fremantle) would be good, make the trip out west more viable, good for double headers.

Losing team? By memory I thought they did all right - with Wayne Mc Daniel and 'Jumpin' Jo Hurst (there's one for the bad nicknames post).

Did go broke though, not enough people in Tassie to watch 'em.

Apparently the Tasmanian SEABL teams get decent crowds. If the Tigers and Razorbacks are struggling to top 2000, then a Tasmanian side could become a possibility again.

My point exactly, and that couldn't do worse than the bottom teams at moment.

Also opens up oppurtunities for high caliber rookies to get minutes.

It would be good to see another team put into the comp. 12 would be great wqe could have a top 6 system instead of this top 8 that i aint to keen on.

Except when the 6ers are battling for the last spot

The Gold Coast Rollers failed for 2 main reaons...the majority of the population at the time were either students or retirees.

Now, it is becoming a very popular place to live for young couples, and even young families (the yogee family even considering the move at the moment)

They have brand spanking new exhibition centre where they can play games, right out the fron of Jupiters Casino. There is a strong push to get a team there, and talk has if it doesnt happen for the 05/06 season, it definitely will for 06/07

Well put Yogee - the population up here is growing very fast and there is a lot of people up here with money to spend. As I mentioned above everyone up here thought it was a foregone coclusion that we would get a new NRL team but that didnt happen. A new team would be welcomed up here and the new Ent Centre would be the perfect venue!

Look forward to seeing you at the games if you get up here Yogee :)
