Stability needed at 36ers

whats one of the things that makes a successful team?.........stabillity.
you look at all the successful teams in sport and 9.5/10 the top teams are the ones that have a core group that have been together for a period of time.
lets look at the nbl teams, sydney, melbourne, brisbane, forget the fact they dont seem to have heard of a salary cap, in the last 3 years they have changed 1 maybe 2 players on their roster but the core have been together for years, the 36ers made 5 changes last season and another 4 this year, keeping in mind copeland and chappell wont be around next season, maher maybe gone in 2 years and davidson in 3, axel gone next season and who knows who else.

i just dont see a successful team being put on the court for a few years until the 36ers can build a core group.sorry for the long spill but what are others thoughts?

every now and then you may get an exception, 3 stars playing together doesnt happen very often, the season is still young so who knows what will happen there.

I know they've taken down the past 36er roster pics from the western wall at the Dome, but when do last recall a core roster maintained in our glorious history?
You might want to question the fact that multiple deals were given the flick, & several of our roster were FORCED to leave.
AND yeah, let's not dwell on team parity, the salary cap, the points system, or the makeup of NBL board constituents.

are you serious? the kings have chopped and changed more then any other team. New import every year. Barlow,Hinder,Tovey.Smith kendall and worthy do not make a "core group".

They're the ones with the labradors that have the cute little handles on them instead of leashes.

skink - Smith, Worthington, Kendall, Carter and (more recently) Crosswhite and Hinder make for more of a stable core than Adelaide have had for a bit - this off-season we appropriately detonated last year's roster and brought in four new starters out of five. Tigers have kept Anstey, Hoare, Stiff, DMac, Crosswell, Corletto. Bullets kept Bruton, Mackinnon, Boucher, Ere, Hill. Wildcats retained Rogers, Redhage, Crawford, Caporn, Dowdell, etc.

There are reasons for Adelaide's lack of stability (poor performance last year, changes at the club, etc) but a stable core group can be a good way of building and sustaining success.

Adelaides core from last year:

Maher, Cooper, Copeland, Ng and Sutton.

But saying that, I wouldn't have wanted to see them retain any of the other that were let go.

skink, Sydney's core group may have changed but they are still a core group belonging to the Boomers who are now named the Sydney Kings.

I think the 36ers should try to build around Maher, Davidson, Mottram, Ballinger, Ng (if he continues basketball) and maybe Cooper, and Burdon, and then try and get a good import to go with Ballinger and keep them for a couple of years, and a couple of young guys or give Dodman and guys like that a run, despite being older the core of Maher, Davidson, Mottram and Ballinger is a reasonable one for the next 2 - 3 years in my opinion as long as they can get the right compliments and have some young guys being blooded to take over as those guys retire.

Theres one thing that they need to do immediately if they plan on winning a game and thats to put Ryan Kersten in the starting five and keep him in it...
