NBA Trivia: Magazine Covers

Who is the only NBA player in history (AFAIK) to simultaneously appear on the cover of Time, Newsweek, U.S. News and Sports Illustrated?

And what was the event that lead to this honour?

I would hazard a guess that it was MJ (His Airness) and would it have been for the Olympic Gold Medal or when he retired?

Magic is correct, but not for his initial announcement. It was when he returned for the second time in 1996.

For the record, he played 32 games and averaged 14.6 points, 6.9 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game during that stint. They lost to Houston in the first round of the playoffs and he retired for good.
