Hunter Pirates final roster

Melmeth
Cullen
Shields (import)
Franklin (import)
BDavidson

Hinder
Mann
Morgan
Selwood
LDavidson

How do you think this roster will fare in 2004/05? Could they make the finals? A lot might depend on how Shields turns out?

The Sixers can't sign KB unless he or one of our imports becomes an Aussie or a Kiwi, we won't sign him. But imagine if we did!!!

Cheers!!!

That's easy to do, he just fits in so well, you'd swear he was Australian.

Isn't KB married to an Australian? doesn't that mean he can get an Aus passport?
What are the rules regarding "naturalised" players a few years a go i think they still had to play as an import even though they were Aus citizens for a couple of years.

if Melmeth stays healthy I think they could make the finals. 8 out of 11, only gotta beat 3 teams.

Shields is the big question mark, the Pirates will need to get consistant scoring from him.

Are the finals still 8 of 11 with the number of teams in the competition!? Oh dear. Surely that will be a point of embarrassment for the league? Why not switch to 6?

Yes Issac, but don't complain because that silly finals format only goes till 2008. It’s top-4 now from 2010. It’s a bit of a joke now because we still have the same top-4 finals format after 11 years. Now we got 10 teams in 2021?

I heard NBL is considering bringing back a team from Newcastle. Not sure if it would be the Falcons or Pirates brand?

Be good if Newcastle could have a team back in the NBL. It's been 15 years since the Pirates were in the league.

Newcastle Basketball are considering renaming their rep team (currently the Hunters) if they're accepted into NBL1 East. They're running a survey; options include Falcons and Pirates, as well as more obscure names like Scorpions (the original women's SEABL name back in the mid-'80s) and Hustlers.

And yep, the '04-'05 Pirates scraped into the finals in 8th place, thanks to a double-OT win in Wollongong. Clayton Shields indeed was a big question mark - he was cut after finding out he had a heart condition, and was replaced by Brian Wethers (and the rest is history...).

Pirates were a fun team to watch. They can't have Scorpions or Huskies over Falcons/Pirates?
