Slingers Off Season

Please place in original thread if possible:

Distraught that the Grizz has left the Slingers- no 'effin' loyalty in bball. Certainly there is some potential

KNIGHT
JANEV
NG.D
NG.M
MCDONALD

and whoever else:

Possible imports to come now would need to be HUGE!

Isn't Helms still with the team? He'll have to learn to share the scoring or will have people to help him share it.

New team will be interesting.

Sad that Grizzard left, but he'll be a monster @ the Tigers.

Darren Ng is a great signing and it is great for him as i think he definitely deserves more minutes- just a little starved for opportunity at the 6ers! Annoyed with the fact that the Grizz has left, best import duo from last season

TEAM COULD BE:
HELMS/MCDONALD/ALLEN
NG.D/FITZGERALD/NG.M
KNIGHT/ NEW PLAYER
DOMINANT IMPORT PF (in the mould of Kevin Freeman/Chris Williams/Dusty Rychart) NEW PLAYER
JANEV/CAMERON

Possible Replacements
EBI ERE, LAMPLEY, HODGE, RO ELLIS (be a fan favorite with his athletic style) HOMICIDE, GALEN YOUNG

Opinions + More information Please?

Marco . There is not much more information iout in the public at the moment but in a couple of weeks you could possible expect some more.

The team needs 5 more players of which 3 will start. Most people doubt that Helms will be back so now expect a completely new import team.

Considering how out of shape Helms was at the start of the season, who would want him back?

I don't think the slingers would want to spend this pre-season on match fitness like their last season.

Not aware of last seasons training schedule- is that what they did? I think spending a good winter in the gym bulking up and working on endurance is good, but some of the basic ball skills need to be improved- shooting in particular-- too many games the guys shot under 35%

When Mike Helms returned from Germany he was not fit and both Mike and Chris Cameron should have been in much better shape in the pre-season (and some would say also during the season). Rest of the team seemed ok already in the pre-season.

This year there will be much more time to one on one training including shooting because they will have the support of Frank Arsego . Remember Dean Vickerman the previous Assistant Coach left for NZ in the pre - season and was not replaced .

Got this from Ozhoops..

Jason Castro (173-G-86) is reportedly in the final phase of negotiations that will make him the Filipino import of a Singapore team competing in the Australian National Basketball League.

Bob Turner speaks about the Slingers on

http://www.singaporeslingers.com/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&id=74763

Interesting parts include :

1. Re Grizzard
"Rod did exceptionally well for us last season so it was perhaps inevitable that other bigger teams came knocking," said Slingers Managing Director Bob Turner. "He was made an offer he simply could not refuse by the reigning NBL champions so it was a no-brainer really."

2. re Helms
"We are in the midst of identifying two potential new American imports whom we feel are of an even higher calibre than both Grizzard and Helms," added Turner.

3. re New Players
" We are also finalising the signing of an exciting Australian star player, who will add a lot of experience and firepower to our starting line-up. We should be ready to reveal his identity, and maybe that of a new giant center, who will give us the power and presence we lacked on the boards last season, by early next week."

(Comment - the star player must be Darren Ng but who is the giant center ????)

4. Asian Player
"Having flirted with the idea of an additional Asian import to draw in more regional supporters into the Slingers fan base since the start of last season, Turner also hinted that it might become a reality in the upcoming new season when he said: "We already have someone in mind and we are sure that if we manage to pull this off, he will help us pull in a substantial crowd for every one of our home games"
