My case to have a balanced NBA playoff series

First Round:
#1 Boston vs. #8 Denver
#2 New Orleans vs. #7 Philadelphia
#3 Orlando vs. #6 Phoenix
#4 Utah vs. #5 Washington

Second Round:
#1 Boston / #8 Denver vs. #4 Utah / #5 Washington
#2 New Orleans / #7 Philadelphia vs. #4 Orlando / #6 Phoenix

Semi's:
1/8/4/5 vs. 2/7/3/6

--

First Round:
#1 Lakers vs. #8 Atlanta
#2 Detroit vs. #7 Dallas
#3 San Antonio vs. #6 Toronto
#4 Cleveland vs. #5 Houston

Second Round:
#1 Lakers / #8 Atlanta vs. #4 Cleveland / #5 Houston
#2 Detroit / #7 Dallas vs. #3 San Antonio / #6 Toronto

Semi's
1/8/4/5 vs. 2/7/3/6

Why?
The West Conference and East conference schedule will be the same, so 8 from each will still make the playoffs.

Balances the West and East better... if anything, it will prove how pathetic the East is by having basically every team but maybe Boston and Detroit eliminated by the upper team's.

The best in the east and best in the west can still play each other in the finals... but if it happens to be west and west, there's no complaints.

You can tinker with the system any way you want, but as long as there are this many NBA teams, you need conferences, and as long as there are conferences, there will be SOME lopsided equation somewhere in the finals system. Over the years it balances out, so there really is no need to mess with what has worked for over 50 years.
Yes, the West is very strong, and very tight - let's just enjoy how awesome the West series are going to be, rather than trying to mess with seedings to set up all these 4-0 series sweeps (as there'll be enough of those on the East side!).

What will be interesting is how much gas the West champs have left in the tank, as they're likely to play 3-7 games more than the East champs, and have had far less rest ...

The teams should all be ranked on their record at the end of the season and 1 plays 16, 2 plays 15 etc. Eastern conference champions are the team with either the best record at the end of the year or who goes furthest into the playoffs. Just seems unfair that a team can have a better record over the season but play a tougher opponent round 1 of the playoffs.
