Hawks sign Petrie for one year

The Wollongong Hawks have signed Anthony Petrie, with the club confirming a one-year deal with the 203cm forward.

Petrie was signed with the West Sydney Razorbacks last season and was quickly snapped up by Brisbane earlier this year. When the Bullets ownership transfer failed to go through, Petrie became available and Hawks coach Eric Cookie admitted he had had an eye on him ever since.

With Weigh, Petrie, Gibson and Tanner now gone from Brisbane since the Kemp incident, this leaves them pretty light on options if any bid to keep them in the league should succeed. Who's left from that interim squad - Hill and Rigby?

Good to see one of struggling clubs get one of these free plyrs. Missing out on Gibson was a slip up on 36ers and worse gave Goorg. a even better team. How they could do that within the salary or points cap is a mystery. Not much left now for Kings & Bullets if can be saved . When is actual last date they can get back in and is there any real hope foe either. There is really only enough qlty. plyrs left for 1 to be competitive now anyway
