Thoughts on ITC Head Coaches Making $ on the side

What is the common consensus of the basketball public on official ITC Head Coaches charging $60+ for a 45min individual? My personal opinion is that it is not that big a deal, they aren't forcing their individual players to pay i suppose... and they are getting elite information.

BUT,

I do have an issue with the ITC coaches making large amounts of money promoting USA Tours as 'ITC' Tours and pocketing $X amount per head. This has become an issue with a number of parents in Qld and from discussions in Ballarat last week, Country Victoria also.

Is this a role that BA would find acceptable? What do you think?

If they are professional coaches and the children and parents want to do it, sure.

But, an individual session with a coach would do minimal for your game, that you can't do in a training session by yourself or with a mate.

As for the coaches getting a cut of the US trip funds, that is outright theivery.

I agree with you Skin, Indis are only benificial when planned out over 8-10 session with a short-term goal of development & if they'll pay it and everyones happy than its all good.

Regarding ITC coaches receiving money for taking ITC groups on tours - it is theivery, thats using thier POSITION & Programs athletes to make money, not their knowledge.
Not good.

If senile parents want to pay an ITC head coach $60+ for an individual, then thats totally their choice. I know of a few people who do this, as SSM suggested are having these over periods of 2-3 months, and their kids really seem to have improved.

As for the Basketball tour money under the table, thats just low from the head coaches...

Surely the OP's dilemma is whether or not the overseas tours can be advertised or promoted as ITC tours. Clearly they are not ITC tours if they do not fall under the auspices of the NITCP and selections limited to ITCP players. It becomes a little bit more grey when it is advertised as a USA tour led NITCP Head Coach but is not part of the NITCP; in this case it is not and the commercial incentives received for promoting the tours would be subject to the acceptable behaviour obligations commensurate with the NITCP accreditation. Perhaps there is someone on the board who can elaborate on these obligations. If it is advertised as an ITC tour but is not endorsed by the NITCP then take it up with the Consumer Affairs Bureau. If there is any doubt send the details to Patrick Hunt at the AIS for clarification.

Make no mistake those who take advantage of the coaching will go further, not because of the coaching but because they will be promoted by the ITC coaches. It's a case of not what you know but who you know.
Basketball is a very small world and those who have access to that world prosper and develop as a result of the self fullfilling prophecy syndrome.
It's not corrupt, it's just the way basketball in OZ is.

parents that are stupid enough to pay and kids that feel obligated to do it make coaches rich. Each to their own.

This is refreshing.

The Country Vic Head Coach (Mmmm.Bop.Hanson) is known state wide for giving ITC kids the 'opportunity' to travel to the US as a team (the opportunity for him to make money off them is the reality).

Glad someone else has noticed this crap.
