Funny Opals go for gold

what a gutsy performance from the "Opals" last night.
"good luck girls"
what a match it will be tomorrow night.
can we win? you bet your goddam life , we can.
well done Erin! great game with your limited minutes.
another great game from Laura, and Jenni stepped up big time!
we will definately miss Kristi when she retires, and Tully, what a tough player she is.

Will be tuning in for the game.

Haven't seen much of the US games to know how tough they'll be - what are our chances?

USA played Russia on SBS at the same time as Opals last night...
Was tough physical game and i wouldnt be surprise if USA would be hurting a bit from the game....
Dont get me wrong the Opals will have to bring their "A" game to beat USA and i hope they can as it is their time to shine.
Interested to read most reports from USA saying Lisa Leslie and the USA womens team... Not just USA womens team
Will be Leslie V's Jackson but Opals should win...
Jackson is pumped for this "one more" she said after China game...
Go Opals, show the world why you are the world's best womens team.

A couple of the Opals girls were interviewed after the win over China & one of them (Screen I think) said... "We have to beat the USA, we just have to".

1) Are they putting too much pressure on themselves? Hopefully they are just confident, but not too much!

2) Would we consider a silver medal to be a failure? ...I get the impression that the players would.

I think a number of the girls have waited a long time for this game.

Lets hope Penny is fit enough to play and the girls throw everything they have at the US.

They deserve this win.

Haven't seen much, or know much about the Opal lineup, but are Erin's limited minutes a surprise?

I assumed she would have a bigger role?

No, Erin's minutes or lack of aren't a surprise. She is still young & playing a back up role to Harrower, who is an outstanding point guard at international level. And also playing behind Bevilaqua who isfar more experienced.
Erin has played really well in her limited time, but it's not a surprise to me. She'll have a much bigger role next time around, as Harrower etc may not be around for London 2012.

we cant make anything......everything rimming out, scores are either free throws, or 2nd thrid effort rebounds. Batkovic killing us with easy misses and turnover costing points. jackson hardly touched the ball.

on the otherhand everything rolling in for the yanks.

The girls have started slow with low field goal % on most of the games these olympics, but geez, can't play like that against the US ><

looking like silver for the girls again , yanks are keeping jackson out of the game

Seems to be a bit of run n gun. Try to go inside for a balanced shot around foul line range. USA defence has sunk to cover baseline penetrations. Just need to calm down a bit in offence.

Can't have any excuses for bad luck with shooting. This is what happens when you have ugly looking shots, a common theme is womens basketball.

Jackson, Taylor, Snell and Phillips are the only players in the team with a proper release. The rest don't shoot it they heave it.

I don't think anyone is saying they are having bad luck. They are just shooting badly. Even the open shots are missing :/

Yup grats on silver, really well played all olympics even when under pressure (eg Russia game). Disappointing game tonight, romped the US in pretty much all areas except just couldn't get the shots to drop.

Harrison. Apart from being clearly retarded I do not know what your issue is. It seems you are pretty much agreeing with me.

Whatever the reason is for the ugly shooting style there are clearly female basketballers who can shoot properly. Look at the all the US team and the four Aussie girls I mentioned. So if some can do it why can't others?

No shame on the Opals after what they had to match up against. USA were all class and skill. Better lose to USA than a lesser team. Well done Opals to get as far as you did.

EC "class"??? I thought the attempted dunk/score (thankfully she missed) at full time by Candace Parker was bush leauge - and soiled a pretty good performance by the USA. The had done a great job separating themselves (as has been the case usually) from their showboating bretheren - and then Anthony Parker's (are they sure she isn't Ricky Davis') sister pulls that ###t. Even the mens team wouldn't do something that dumb.
