Is poor attitude a bonus?

Is the best way to achieve in basketball to swear at your team mates at training and during a game, use your elbows until they bleed, blame others for your turn overs and for losing games and to push the limits of poor sportsmanship every time you hit the court?
Have to question the mind set of some BA junior selections of late.

Perhaps take your bitterness up with the coach then?

I think it's got more to do with talent. If ur talented, u'll get picked to play no matter how big an arse-face you are.

Or the male state player who was sent out of the stadium yesterday after 2 tech fouls. And not the first he's ever received.

#154,
'nice girls/boys don't win'
Don't know anyone who while they are on court are nice, but most have some modicum of sporting ethics beyond which they don't travel. However if you are rewarded for poor behaviours, you repeat them. There seems to be an inability to pick the difference between poor attitude and the much admired 'attitude' by those who count.
I've heard the spiel given at TI camps about what is expected of players and then seen players selected in the 'five' who display exactly the opposite to what was spelt out as unwanted characteristics.
The state head coach who runs these camps and SASI probably needs to spell out to kids what exactly is the criteria for success in his eyes because a lot would be both puzzled and disappointed by what they have seen and heard over the past few months.

anon #17239,

Maybe you should worry about you own daughters attitude. The parent of a selfish guard who shots the ball every time they touch it, shouldn't be bitching about somebody else's kid. Especially when, you have let her quit on her team every time they have made the Classics so that she doesn't get injured. (doesn't get shown up under real competition) Leaving her team to get beaten badly.

If you want to know why your kid wasn't selected for anything, go take a long hard look in the mirror.
