Cortez Groves... is he a dud?

Is Cortez Groves the biggest dud import in the NBL?

He put up big scores for 1/2 a season last year then completely fell off. He's failed to even get a shot off with the game on the line. On Saturday he held the ball 'til there were 2 seconds left in the half then fired an uncatchable pass cross court. Averaging less than 5ppg at home. Can't get to the foul line...the list goes on.

Probably just not used to coming off the bench and not being first option on offense?

Averaging 13.75 PPG in 27 MPG (down from a high of 39 MPG in 05/06). Taking fewer shots than Worthington, for example.

Adjusted for minutes played, his scoring output is basically identical to that of Joe Ingles at 15.8 PPG, who is the second scorer for the team.

Just reading the Herald-Sun and Goorjian described Groves as being "Rock Solid" and BG seems to be more focused on Tremell Darden's poor form.

Granted, he's probably not sure of his role now he's not expected to light up night after night but stats don't really tell the story.

I guess it boils down to this: you expect more from your imports. If he was a local dude playing 20 minutes a game, I could forgive a lot more of his inconsistency. Obviously the dragons don't need a 'dominating force' kind of import but you've gotta demand reliability...and he's especially suspect when it matters.

In my opinion, imports are only duds when the team they are playing for are not winning.
The Dragons are playing some good ball this year. With Worthington,Ingles,Horvath and Darden he isn't exactly the go to man anymore.

you have no idea what a balanced team is do you???? See why melbourne suck too many superstars that play for themselves not enough good team play out there eg. dragons, breakers, taipans, spirt(yes they suck but even)

First of all, Melbourne certainly don't suck. If they'd done what nearly everyone expected on Saturday night and won, they'd be 5-2 (second on the ladder). They'll get it together.

And secondly, no one's debating the balance of the team as a whole, just what Groves brings to it. In a balanced team everyone makes their specialised contribution to make those around them better. I don't see how Groves does that.
