Jawai out another 6 weeks...

"USTRALIAN Nate Jawai faces a potentially career-ending dilemma in six weeks after heart specialists again stalled his entry into the NBA.

Known as "Aussie Shaq', Jawai last year became the first indigenous Australian drafted into the NBA and was shaping up to be a 208cm cult figure for the Toronto Raptors this season.

But the 22-year-old now faces another anxious wait on medical tests to determine if he has an NBA future. Jawai has already been sidelined for two months after doctors discovered in pre-season testing that he had an enlarged heart.

He was hoping follow-up tests would clear him for his NBA debut, but The Sunday Telegraph can reveal Jawai has been advised to rest for another six weeks. If there is no change in that time, Jawai faces a big decision - quit, or take his chances playing with the Raptors.

Jawai's agent Daniel Moldovan is confident the basketballer from the remote north Queensland village of Bamaga will be back on the training court within six weeks.

"The doctors are being extra cautious,' Moldovan said. "It was their recommendation - not their demand - that Nate take another six weeks off. When you're dealing with the heart it's got to be taken seriously."

This is a crushing blow...:(

Man - that is really unfortunate...

I hope that it isn`t as bad as it looks. Then again last thing we need is another Hank Gathers, Reggie Lewis, Jason Collier, Conrad McCrae on our hands.

It's a good question David. Why didn't the problem show up last year? You would think it would have had a greater chance of showing up last year as he was playing alot of minutes last year. However, you can probably imagine the workouts with the Raptors place alot of strain on the heart. They sure wouldn't be easy. NBA players usually train twice a day, some train 3 times a day e.g Gilbert
