What came first - the chicken or the egg?

Me and my mates are having this debate at the moment and it is driving us crazy. Yes - we are bored!

So what do people actually think came first?

I'm really torn on this...I'm leaning towards the chicken.

Scientists say "the egg"

"The reason is down to the fact that genetic material does not change during an animal's life.
Therefore the first bird that evolved into what we would call a chicken, probably in prehistoric times, must have first existed as an embryo inside an egg".

So one day, the chicken and the egg are having sex. All of the sudden, the chicken stops, and lights a cigarette.
The egg says 'Well, i guess that solves that problem'

First chicken was created, with the first egg inside it ... so was concurrent.

Could there have been a 'big bang' that led to one or the other?

Then again perhaps you needed two chickens for the big bang to happen?

How do you know it isn't something completely messed up; like a Duck and a Parrot had sex and created the first chicken?

One of my mates reckons God didn't have breakfast one morning and his twop eggs hatched instead and thus the egg came first.

No its not about basketball but at least it is remotely interesting and fun unlike reading a for sale advert!!!! hence the reason people are commenting and guess what that is what a forum is!!!!!

No, according to your ranting and raving in the for sale ad thread, this is a basketball forum and it should be about basketball.

Your logic suggests the original poster should have posted on inanepseudophilosophicalquestions.com

The answer we have all be waiting for...British scientists have finally identified the answer to this age old conundrum.

Link: http://linky.com.au/sckbf

From the article:

"Researchers have found that a protein called ovocleidin (OC-17) is crucial in the formulation of eggshells, and it is produced in the pregnant hen's ovaries, the Daily Express reports."

"Therefore, the answer to the conundrum must be that the chicken came first."
