Raptors fire coach Mitchell

Struggling Raptors fire Mitchell just 17 games into season

After a massive off-season makeover, the Raptors have struggled to a sub-.500 record, far below expectations. Mitchell, two years on from his Coach of the Year award, is on the scrapheap.

Perhaps he can take heart from Doc Rivers story - COY winner in 2000, sacked in 2003, Championship Coach in 2007-08!

Wow, 2 of the past 3 COY's are now without a job (Mitchell plus Avery Johnson). Plus last year's COY, Byron Scott, is also facing a bit of pressure with some suggesting that CP3 may not be 100% behind him.

I thought Mitch was a good coach with a very limited roster. Bosh putting up big numbers but the wins will only come from a whole team effort. They were hugely over-rated to begin the season and have decided to blame the coach.

I hope Mitch and Jordan from Washington get another shot with a better team coz both guys have a record better than the teams they had at their disposal.

This is another Kidd-Harris issue except with O'Neal-Ford.

Both pairs involve good talent but Indiana and NJ seem to have the better deal out of them both.

Oh well, fingers crossed that Jawai will finally get better and back on court; I'd love to see a Bosh/Jawai/Bargnani frontcourt.

That would be a front court that relies entirely on Bosh. He needs help and tobe honest Jawai and Bargnani aren't it. That's why they got O'Neal but that doesn't appear to be working. It's gonna be a long two seasons for Bosh. The Raptors should try and deal him now to get something for him cos he will walk in 2010.

Those that have actually watched all Raptors game this season would know that the Jermaine trade is working and just how much of a huge impact he is having. The trio of Bosh/Calderon/O'Neal is not to blame...try the soft as butter supporting cast (combined with a very tough schedule). Parker, Moon, Kapono etc...all of them are afraid of contact, and Kapono doesn't get enough plays run for him (if any) considering he is the best shooter in the game.

8/9 is no where near bad enough to fire a good coach like Mitchell. With him gone, no one is left to demand tough, gritty players so Colangelo (the real one to blame) will keep bringing his soft Europeans with 'great attitudes' as appose to the guys that are gonna be aggressive for 48 minutes.
