pacific school games - no SA teams in seniors?

Just wondering if anybody from SA can shed any light on why the SA 18 and Under teams didn't travel to Canberra to play in the Pacific School Games last week.

Full complement of states and territories plus China, Singapore and Macau (boys only) but SA only fielded a team in the Primary Girls Division it seems.

An excellent tournament with a high standard across most teams (with the usual regional variations obviously) so interesting that SA chose not to send teams.

Any ideas.

Usually our best kids are away on SASI tour.

And apart from the VICs, who are only in qualifying, we are the only State playing Rep(district) Ball. All other states are only playing domestic.

William there is a sasi boys tour but there have been no tours for the SASI girls, despite promises, for the past two years. Dead sport run by dead head leaders who have no interest in promoting the game only the junkets associated with overseas trips and state teams in which the support crew of 3 coaches, one manager and a physio is half as big as the team itself.

ACT had 3 AIS kids playing...Cody Ellis, Todd Blanchfield and Hugh Greenwood, probably the only reason they got up in the final over NSW. The PSG tournament is certainly not as good as a National Junior Tournament, but it's still hoops...

Who's paying for all the coaches and support crew?

Why the parents of course.

Everyone gets asked if they would be prepared to pay extra for a phyiso etc to travel with the team.....but of course the classic part of this little scheme is that the parents are asked before the final team is picked. Do you reckon any one would dare say no?

Well....

I know of one parent from a state squad member last year who is absolutely convinced his child missed out because he found out he was the only one who did not support the extra cost of a "friend of a friend " team phyisio. Silly him.
