Yi Jianlian the all-star?!

Current Eastern Conf all-star voting for forwards shows Lebron and KG 1st and 2nd, followed by....Yi Jianlian? He of the 11pts and 6rebs?

Clearly the internet voting is making the all-star starters a joke.

Thankfully only the top two vote getters get to start, the bench selected by the coaches so the chances of Yi playing are slim, but this has to be a warning to the L when such a marginal talent can threaten to crash the all-star party...

Will we see an end to internet voting?
What other solutions can the L come up with?
Is it a problem at all?

The All-Star reserves are the only proper selections for an All-Star game.

While the idea of the decision being made on the fans choosing is always something that players enjoy; even if Lebron was scoring 2,3 & 3 per game this season, chances are he would be a fore-runner for a starter spot.

Wade was a good example last year, he played like crap for half the season and still made the cut.

BJ Armstrong used to start for the Eastern All stars before internet voting - as all the chicks thought he was cute. You will always get things like this happening if you leave it up to the public. Nothing you can do about it.

The all star game isn't a real game anyway. Lets start voting for sean marks as west centre and see if we can topple the votes for yao.

Maybe they should really look at limiting the amount of players people can vote for as starter. Have the coaches or GM select a limited number of top players, of which guys like Yi would not get a look in.

The same guys voting for Yao are likely voting for Yi, so if Yi has considerably less votes than Yao - this kinda indicates that the league is already stepping in to fudge the numbers, making Yi's "first return" votes significantly lower than they actually are ... it wouldnt be the first time the league stepped in to keep a "lower name" out of the starting five

If you look at the history of "first returns" vs final results, there are a few "discrepancies" (sp?) ... one player who mouthed off about other issues and became unpopular with Stern in about 2002 suddenly dropped from 3rd most votes to about 8th, far against his popularity amongst fans.

It's the leagues most visible night of the year, do you REALLY think they leave entire control of aspects to us mere mortals ?

BJ Armstrong made one all star game that I can remember and that was in 94. And he was an all star that year. Cute chicks or otherwise ;)

He was a deserved allstar that year? I dont think so. 14 and 3 isnt all star material.
