NBL Points Cap - are teams over the cap?

With the NBL using both the Salary Cap and Points Cap, I got interested into looking at what teams where under the Points Cap based on the information available on the NBL Website.

Now their information has almost all the NBL players listed, with both their Internal & External ratings, as well as some information about players returning from college:

The following rookies will be assigned a PPR of 3 points for the purposes of their first NBL players' contract:
a) A player on scholarship with the Australian Institute of Sport for two years (seasons)*.
b) An Australian commencing with any NBL Club after a minimum of two years (seasons)* in the US College system.

It also has a piece about players returning from overseas:
Non-restricted players returning from or having played overseas will be allocated a PPR according to the following:
NBA / CBA 10 points
NBDL, European Leagues 9 points
Other International Leagues 8 points

Now onto the main aim of my post...

As I mentioned I have taken an interest in the points cap and have found that based on current rosters, both the Melbourne Tigers and Perth Wildcats are over the cap.

Melbourne:
Chris Anstey, Ebi Ere, Sam Mackinnon (10 Points)
Dave Thomas, Luke Kendall (9 Points)
Dave Barlow, Stephen Hoare (8 Points)
Nathan Crosswell (7 Points)
Daryl Corletto (3 Points)
Tommy Greer, Adrien Sturt (1 Point)
TOTAL = 76 Points

Perth:
Paul Rogers, Shawn Redhage (10 Points)
Ben Knight, Darnell Hinson, Isiah Victor (9 Points)
Peter Crawford (7 Points)
Tom Garlepp (5 Points)
Adam Caporn, Brad Robbins (4 Points)
Alex Loughton, Stephen Weigh (3 Points)
Jeff Dowdell (1 Point)
TOTAL = 74 Points

The question I have for anyone on here is, Are my calculations really bad, or is there something wrong with this system?
Any ideas on how this is possible considering the NBL "polices" the points cap??

1 obvious error - Mackinnon should not be included in that Tigers team.

You're counting too many players. In the Tigers, SMac isn't in the roster right now. At the Cats, they are shuffling out injured players. Kendall was there when Rogers was out and now Robbins and Caporn are out (and McDonald in), and Garlepp may be a development player.

Ahh thanks for pointing that out....

Kendall was brought in to replace Mackinnon, my mistake...
Taking out Mackinnon puts the Tigers below the cap.

The NBL site say that all contracted players (including 11th and 12th men) are counted in the points cap...

f) The TTP calculation for each Club is to include all players on the club's active roster, up to and including players 11 & 12 if contracted. Registered NBL Development players are exempt from the calculation of the TTP.

So my numbers are still wrong, but depending on contract issues, I might not be far off...

I think Clarky, that you will find that in 90% of the cases, the 11th and 12th men are in fact "registered development players" are therefore exempt. Ie. Hoban, Burdon, Kersten for the 6ers are exempt. I believe you can only be a development player for 2 seasons though.

"f) The TTP calculation for each Club is to include all players on the club's active roster, up to and including players 11 & 12 if contracted. Registered NBL Development players are exempt from the calculation of the TTP."

I didn't know you could have 12 active non-DP's?!? Either way, I think Perth only have 10 ACTIVE players +DP's, thus sliding under the cap.

If this system is carried into the NewB it's a joke.

Jordan:
If that is the case with the "registered development players" then this was a completely pointless thread.
Since the NBL site doesn't seem to have a full list of registered development players we can probably assume that my numbers are totally wrong...

thats why the Breakers only have 1 Import this season, Id way rather have Bruton over any Import in the league anyway.
