36ers New import - what about Smith?

How about Smith from the dragons for one of the import spots next season? Nice inside / outside game.

With a clean slate for the season, plus the fact that everyone will be free agents technically, I dare say fresh blood would be a better way to go than recycled imports.

Please get Bobby Jones... a defensive specialist who can shoot and rebound.

Can we afford him?

we can pay him more than what he's getting at the D-league.

Yea he looks good to me! I think we need someone like him who is putting up good d-league numbers and if possible with nba experience, i named a few other good options IMO on the 36ers wish list thread, one of the biggest names being Dupree.

Smith would be great. He took a while to settle in but looks a keeper. Great penetrater, plays D, exciting, 3pt range, good passer.
Could slot in nicely at SF.

yea i forgot to say i would be very happy with smith, i checked him out online when arrived and he appeared 2 have a better nba career than hodge so i expected him to break loose at some point and think he would be awesome in our free flowing system, but yea Bobby Jones, dupree and other d-leaguers all look good, so heres hoping we get someone awesome!

Smiths body language is a worry at times and the way Gorj was speaking to him the time out suggests he may need quiet a bit of pampering

Jesus, Paul.....how the hell do you jump to THOSE conclusions?

AFAIK, Donta fits in very well. He has a great relationship with his teammates and Goorj finds him very easy to coach. He is a professional.

He was pretty handy last night too :-)

Dicko - I think that Paul may have been referring to the timeout with about 3 minutes to go where Goorj had to hold Donta's hand and tell him he was doing really really great and to 'keep being great'

While he may be easy to coach and all the things you said it did look on TV as though Donta required some special efforts and extra praise from Goorj to try and keep him happy

I agree with statman, I also thought when he made a pass to Matt Bersten who lost the handle, Smith had a few angry words to say... whether it was to himself or to Bersten I don't know, but I got the impression he could be a bit petulant.

i like the look of Bobby Jones.

Started five of the final six games in 2006-07 (his only starts of the season) and averaged 9.6 points (53.8% FGs), 3.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.20 steals in 27.2 minutes per game.... i know it's a long time ago, but he's been playing to get in the NBA since and should have improved. Someone who can do that would be dominant in this league.

and look at his career best game in the NBA:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200801180MEM.html

20 points
13 rebounds
7 assists

GET HIM!!

Yes Smith has a bit to offer. Big man with inside and outside game . Sorry dont have great knowledge of american basketball. As a couple of posters have raised Bobby Jones can someone give us a better picture of size and position would mainly cover and strengths.

201cm (6'7"). Would play SF for the 36ers. Good rebounder for his size. Capable 3pt shooter.

Could be good.

Not smith, played in an asian league prior to here and i dont think anyone but Gorj could get him to play at his peak in Australia, Smith had some shockers before Brian went public about Smith finding his feet etc. New import for me, or the only recycled id go for "Carlos Powell" awesome player, he tore it up with NZ and won the dunk comp.

Lol hereschenes, it's all about tapping square until you get the steal.

I don't think people here rate Carlos Powell much as a player or person but I'd take him anyday. Just looking back at his 06/07 stats, he averaged 28, 8 and 4 with two steals and a block at 54%. Those are crazy numbers!

He's not a team player though. I'd steer clear.
