Victoria, this is your lucky day

Today is Friday the 13th, yet is appears to be Victoria's lucky day...and yet again highlight's Melbourne as the Sports capital of this country.

Here are the facts, today in Melbourne - and makes it a busy evening at the sports precinct in particular tonight...

- Sheffield Shield Cricket Final commences: Victoria vs Queensland @ Junction Oval

- NBL Grand Final: Dragons vs Tigers @ Hisense

- AFL NAB Cup Grand Final: Collingwood vs Geelong @ MCG Etihad Stadium (Docklands)

- NRL 1st Round tonight: Melbourne Storm vs St George-Illawarra @ Olympic Park

- WNBL Grand Final: Bulleen vs Canberra (although it is in Canberra)

And to top it all off, the Kings of Leon are playing to a sell-out crowd at Rod Laver Arena tonigfht as well!

Good story about it in today's Melbourne Herald-
Sun: http://linky.com.au/1j2b2

"By the time the clock ticks midnight, Victorian teams will have won at least two and possibly three premierships in national competitions, and will probably be well on the way to a fourth one.
Actually, make that five. Melbourne Victory has already won the A-League soccer double, the premiership and the championship, and have been celebrating for a fortnight."

insert here the normal cant the NBL do anything right? why would the deciding game of the GF series be placed up against all this stuff? why not have the game tomorrow night away from big night of the AFL and Rugby? Isnt that the reason the sport was switched to summer in the first place?

Isn't the NAB cup Grand Final played at the Telstra Dome or Etihad as it's now known. They never play pre-season at the G. The Shield final was meant to be played there but because of the Bushfire concert tomorrow night they moved it to Junction Oval.

My apologies...got the venue wrong...

However, I agree - why wouldn't the NBL schedule it on Saturday night gioven the other events?

And with the WNBL grand final today also, surely it would be worthwhile to let the girls have the night to themselves?

on the flipside.....why dont all the other codes (including the women's basketball) move there games so the Mens Grand Final is the only thing on tonight....

Hang on i have a prior engagement on tonight...why didnt the NBL consult with me before setting their schedule.

Come on it is certainly getting tedious all this talk about why dont the NBL check with everyone else.

Venue availability my friend. You can t book a venue if you dont know your in the playoffs. Because the NBL clubs dont own the venues they play in it makes it very difficult to simply move dates.

It'll be a sellout.....they had 8500 sold at about 2pm and they've just announced that Zac Efron is coming to the game, so any leftover seats should be bought by hundreds of teenage girls by now.

Actuall it was the NAB Cup final that was moved.

It was originally scheduled for Saturday night, but was moved to Friday night to not clash with the Sound Relief - Bushfire Concert.

It isn't uncommon for codes to clash in Melbourne but this this many is uncommon, the NBL did look at moving the game to Sunday night during the week but decided against it - which i agree with.

Most people would be stoked that there are heaps of good events on in their city. In Auckland we never have that problem, Harden the .... up
