Port Pirie Basketball Association Grand Final

This coming Saturday, 21 March 2009 is the Port Pirie Basketball Associations Grand Final and if you want a night of great entertainment come down for the weekend.

A Grade.

AW: Agnes vs Crystal Brook or Port.

Having won 2 of the last 4 Grand Finals Agnes boast some of the most talented players in Port Pirie with 4 of the members representing The Panthers at the recent Senior Country Championships.
On each of their entries into the Grand Final they have taken the title and having lost just 2 games during the season are favourites to make it 3 from 5.

Agnes' potential opponents are Crystal Brook who finished 2nd and lost to Agnes in the semi by 4pts in over time. Crystal Brooke recruited well in the off season bringing in Rebecca Rasheed (Redden) who was a Division One player for South Adelaide in 2004/2005. Rebecca was recently announced the PPBA Most Valuable Player and All-Star 5 Power Forward.
OR Port.
Port live for finals being the current reigning Champions and from memory have played in 4 of the last 5 Grand Finals. Jess Dunkley returned to the team after a year off from a knee reconstruction and took off where she started from with a All-Star 5 selection at Small Forward. Port are the most experienced team by age and featuring champion players in Sally Anderson & Jodie Munzberg, they will be wanting to grab a spot in the Big Show

Agnes Line Up:
Starting Five - Jenna Hoare (All-Star 5 Shooting Guard), Kayla Hayes, Donna Mezzino, Jordan Rawlins (Season Highest Point Scorer) & Ashe McCarthy (All-Star 5 Centre).
Bench - Jenna Caulfield, Lauren Lowe, Emma Hayes & Tiffany Brooks.

AM: Agnes vs Yellow Ducks or Port.

Having played in 3 straight Grand Finals, the 2007/08 season brought the club it's first Grand Final Victory in it's 30 year history. This season has seen a change of fortunes however holding onto 2nd spot for the entirety of the season, Agnes were able to upset HOT favourties Yellow Ducks in the Semi, defeating them for the first time this season by 1 point in over time. Ryan Hoare & Lyall Gillett have again been the teams leaders sharing the Captaincy for Agnes as well as sharing the Vice Captaincy for Port Pirie.

Agnes' potential opponents are Yellow Ducks who although losing the Semi Final will remain HOT favouites to play off against Agnes in the Grand Final having lost 1 Minor round game for the entirety of the season and a total of just 2 games from 18. Yellow Ducks feature the Season MVP & Leading Scorer Stuart Yates who has arguably had his best season in some time.
OR Port.
Port boast the youngest team in the competition which was formed by Port Pirie's Senior Men Combined Coach Clive Munzberg to be a development team to some of Port's hottest juniors. Lead by Tim Dunkley chosen at small forward for the All-Star 5 and teaming up with State U18 Captain and potential Nationals selection & All-Star 5 Centre Nelson Magor, Port were the only team to defeat Yellow Ducks in the minor rounds recently in round 17 and if as a team they can turn it on, they are a strong chance to play in the Grand Final.
