millicent tournament

just come back from the milliecent pre season competition.
an extremely well run weekend (mav's people take note) by the millicent bball club.
forrestville guy's looked very good and they still have a couple of players to come back.
they genuinely like playing together and under andy's coaching, and are very disiplined in how they play their bball.
the pioneer's looked okay especially when they still have jason and the perth guy still to come in. mase could be a real surprise packet for them.
norwood girls tried hard considering they only has 7 players for the weekend although melissa marsh from the perth lynx has got some serious game about her!!!!
warnambool boys looked a bit rusty and it doesn't help when their coach got himself a tech foul 3 mins into the first game on the friday night. not very good from the coach i thought.
best game of the weekend was the last game on the sunday between the pioneers and warnambool. 108-106 to warnambnool.
extremely high quality bball.
and it was good to see they had 4 decent ref's down there as well in filmer, benn macdonald, nate durant and wellbourn.
but overall i thought there was some decent bball to watch .

a good source tells me that some of the forestville boys woke up next to something you would see in a Star Trek episode. Word is Sulli ran from the pub as the local girls took a liking to him.

I noticed Sully running off too. But I thought he would be keen for a little chicky babe action...

So how'd the Pioneer boys look? How did Jason Sedlock and jamie Holmes play?

Panther sounds like he needs his daily Pioneer fix. Luckily, I'm here to give it to him. As I posted on a separate thread, both these guys looked short of a gallop. Sedlock's been too busy playing baseball this off-season (seriously) in Mt Gambier's Div 2 league, while Holmes took time out to rest his body for the coming season. He looked rusty, but still full of jump hooks and spin moves in the low block.

The excitement factor though is little D-Mac. I never thought I'd see Darryl McDonald be young again - but now I have!

watching the forestville v mount g game i didnt think D-mac was all that great, thought the fville guards definately had the better of him.

Not saying he was great. Just saying he was exciting. Maybe the "new" NBA is influencing me too much. He's apparently playing in the local A league so will be interesting to see what he does there on Wed night.

I wouldn't have said that Sedda looked rusty. I think he was just a little out of touch, but against Warnambool he was one of the shining lights. Jamie made some wicked post moves in the Forestville and Warnambool games, so he looks like he will be right in a couple of weeks. Mt Gambier will obviously have quite a different team, but I still think they will do well as they can pound the ball inside to those two guys and let them go to work, or hit Derek, Duggan or Mase on the perimeter. Mind you, I think they do need another tall to get Sedda and Jamie out the game. Bear isn't really that much of a back up in my opinion.

Derek suited up for Panthers last week in "A" Grade! From what i saw he didnt go too bad but definetly created his fair share of excitement! Frustrated a few Cougars players with his enormous hops and ability to block shots!

If Mt Gambier get any injuries to any of their main three...that being Holmes, Williams or Sedlock they will struggle big time. As it is Williams is going to have to have a big year for them if they are to have any chance cos there other guards just arn't up to it.
Having said that when this 6"5 bloke comes from Perth they might start to look like a contender...time will tell, but as they are now they would struggle to make the central conference finals! I mean they lost to Warnanbool who are just pathetic...the eagles beat them by almost 40 and didn't even play that well.

First of all, to timberwolf, warrnambool beat forrestville every year for the last 5 matches, do the research. One thing you forget is that these are just "practice" matches. Warrnambool still has two or three solid players to come in the line up. Do your research before you make a comment like that, by the way, can you even play? What team are you on? Just curious. Mt. Gambier still has players to come into their team to. No team sums up their season based on what happends in millicent, we have bigger goals to reach, that's why they are called "practice" matches!

smashkid...first of all how about you take a chill pill, and then how about you do your research mate. Warrnanbool and Forestville have only played each other over the last 3 years. The first in 2003 the seahawks got up by about 8 or 9(in that game half of the eagles team rocked up at half time). Last year, Forestville won by 40, and this year the eagles got up by 35...how do I know? Because I played in all three, and have been around long enough to know that they haven't played each other for a while before then!

After talking with the coach of the Seahawks on the weekend(which you would think was a pretty reliable source), he said that they only had Ray Borner to add to their list...assuming he was telling the truth, they will definately struggle this year. I hope they go well...they all seem like good blokes!

If Mt Gambier can keep everyone fit and in form then they will be a threat in the SEABLE, but as I said in my last post, if one of their big three gets injured, they will struggle also. And I still stand by my point that as they are now, they would struggle to make the central conference finals...and I don't think anyone would argue. Having said that, and again like I said in my last post, having a fit Williams, and this bloke from Perth coming over they will look more like a contender...as long as they stay fit. Good luck to them...they all seen like good blokes too and are representing SA.

Just my opinion!

And sully, it wasn't me mate!

Can someone let me know who trashed Sully's room so I can congratulate them please? Apparently it was a mighty fine effort.

Thanks for the compliment Suds. All four of us had a ball, it was great fun. Benn and Welby seemed to cop most of the grief from the players and coaches, so that was pretty funny to watch/listen to. It was great to socialise with the guys and girls also, eventhough it cost more than what I had planned...

Timberwolf, I think your underestimating the Pioneers a bit mate. To say that with the team they have now they couldn't even make the central conference finals is obsurd! When you have two quality imports and a player like Timmy Duggan on the team they would beat any team in our conference. I've been on both ends here and let me tell you, when it's time to turn it on, these boys doing exactly that! You tell me what team in our conference who could stop the MVP from SEABL two seasons ago???

Did you see any/many of Holmes' games last season? He wouldn't stop an opponent, he'd just outscore them! It was incredible -- those mid-range shots he's missing in the NBL were money nearly every time, even against really tough defense.

What are the chances of getting the Pioneers up for a couple of exhibition games? Would they draw a big enough crowd to make it worth the effort?

Both Holmes's!!!! Yer I saw a few of Jacob's games, it astounds me how good he plays in the ABA yet when it comes to NBL he stinks it up more times than not. He was pretty good at the start of the season and a couple of games lately but other than that he's bricking them up!
It would be good to get an exhibition game up here but when? It would have to be preseason and the Pioneers aren't exactly firing on all cylinders by then!

do you really have to use such terms? quite honestly i beleive the standard of this thread, although some think it funny has dropped way below good taste.

there are kids who read this forum, and other impressionable teenagers.

to see players alluding to all night parties in rooms with women (although i know it does happen - and also this might be all posted tongue in cheek) incomprehensible.

what goes away should stay away.

but above all whether you thought the women concerned weren't good lookers or a tad on the heavy side to call them (removed) is a bit too much.

if i was one of those young women involved i'd be looking towards legal action or a similar recourse.

(Mod: Thanks for drawing my attention to this.)

Anonymous, i'd like to apologise to you and anyone else who read my earlier post and found it offensive.

I think you'll find several of the posts in this thread have been done with tongue in cheek, starting with Flyonwalls original post.

Whether its said with tongue in cheek or not I realise it doesn't set a good example for the kids that read this.

And anonymous if you heard who broke into my room can you let me know

Bobby it was 4(Wood,Beggs, Farnam,Jennings) blokes that rocked up at half time, two starters and two other very handy players...so not 5 or 6 and not 1 or 2.

Oh and thanks for the spelling lesson Anonymous you idiot!......why bother?

Panther, it might be different after a few more games under their belt but the Mt G team that I saw just didn't look to have the depth that a lot of our teams have to make our finals here. Obviously it will be differnt when Jas and the Perth bloke arrive, but that wasn't the argument was it. Having said that and like you said, any team with Holmes in it would be a chance against most teams...i'll give you that!

timberwolf, being that you play for forrestville, I was just wondering, do you mean anything to that team, or are your only contributions from your mouth? You never answered my question, can YOU play? was just wondering because you seem to be an expert on who can do what.

And Anonymous, not sure if you really needed to put in that comma after 'saves you' in your last post...just helping you out mate.
