Patty Mills declares draft eligibility today @ 1pm

Conference went ahead at 1PM today and the news just in is.

News is Patty has declared for the NBA Draft but has left the door open to return to college if the tryouts don't go well between now and late June.

I missed the phone conference, so can't make any comments about the mood, what was discussed etc. I only got an update from Bill Baxter from Basketball Australia Media after the conference.

I have seen one mock draft, will post when i can remember which one that has him already down as no:20 pick.

The following mock draft has Patty Mills going no: 23

I would probably like to see him end up at Toronto along with Jawai, that would probably be the best fit for him. Toronto have pick 9 and 39, I can't see Pat going as high as 9 really, unless he really works the tryouts well.

Ideally you would want someone like the Spurs to select him. Play in a great program, excellent coaching, backup one of the better PG in the league.
(and always on ESPN)

Oh, and the national coach is also the Spurs assistant!

Ideally he'd back up early on i agree. I'd love to see him go to golden state and stay in the bay area.

davidk NBAdraft is shit.

use DraftExpress.

Best case for him is to be drafted by the Nuggets in the 2nd round to be under Billup's wing where he can flourish.

A lot will change beween now and draft day.

Only guarantee is that Blake Griffin will go #1.

A lot of mocks don't necessarily take into consideration a team's needs so I wouldn;t read too much into it. However it reinforces he will either be a late 2nd round pick or early 2nd round at worst if he sticks with it.

I think he will be a late first rounder...

ESPN have a poll on where Patty Mills wil be drafted...

Currently:

4% = early lottery
17% = late lottery
33% = first round
33% = second round
13% = undrafted

So that means 54% of the 4741 respondents (at the time) believe he will be a first round draft pick, and 87% believe he will be drafted.

The poll is at the bottom of the ESPN men's college basketball home page if you want to vote yourself.

I'll chuck a vote in for Patty late first round, LC! It would be interesting to see how many of the people who voted are Australians!

I think we will have to wait until much closer to the cut off date for underclassmen to withdraw before we have a good idea where Mills is likely to be drafted.

I think he could even go as high mid first round if he really impresses in a couple of workouts, but he could just as easily drop deep into the second round if he does the opposite.

I agree that the best scenario for Mills is to go to a team who needs a backup pg. Backing up Billups would be okay, since he has a lot of knowledge and will probably only play big minutes one or two more years at most.

I still like Atlanta though, because he would be in a great position to learn from Mike Bibby and take the reins of a young, fast, athletic team in a couple of years. Having Joe Johnson as his backcourt mate would really help him as well, because he wouldn't need to run the offence straight away, and Joe draws so much attention, Patty would get open a lot more.

@phd in shock

Right now DraftExpress are just ranking the players in order of talent and potential...

Team needs haven't been taking into account yet.

I think Mills will actually slip down a bit... SGs in a PGs body aren't rated that highly.

Both andy Katz and Chad ford discussed the draft now that declarations have closed, and both beleive Patty Mill's timing to nominate is "Hard to argue":

"Mills' broken right hand was enough of a scare to send him into the draft. Mills has proved at the Olympic level that he can play with the elite players. He still could technically return, but no one would debate his readiness to play professionally."
