Foxtel holding league to ransom?

As has been posted before several clubs are saying they will only continue in the league if there is tv coverage. Foxtel has said that they will only show 4 games for the season (which is not good enough) but what we haven't been told is that they also what exclusive rights to basketball. One club has a local tv network willing to show a weekly highlights package and at least one other has the ability to stream the games via the internet but foxtel will not agree to this. Another big boy trying to hold the league to ransom.

ONE HD would be looking at htis with some interest mainly on the low costing that is being offered to the NBL, what they need to look at is the $ of setting it all up, which was one of Foxtels points...

if this is true 4 games in reference to fox, then the other owners should wake up as BA and not have an interim competition.

You guys do all realise that OneHD only broadcasts to Melbourne, Sydnet, Briabane, Adelaide and Perth don't you.
What broadcaster would want to pick up a sport where of all it's teams only 2 markets are within its covered area?
I can't really see Melbourne or sydney or briabane having any interest in a t'vill v the gong match.
Great fit indeed.
This league will get no tv deal and will not go ahead.

I suggest they tell foxtel to go play in the sandpit with the tigers and dragons and organise for all teams to stream the games on the computer. Club sponsors would get their logos show and new sponsors could advertise on line. It may not be ideal but at least we would be able to watch the games that are not at home.

to hold something for ransom - it has to be of some value ..

4 games? why bother. At least over this side of the ditch Maori TV broadcast all home games last season and did a pretty good job of it apart from tha Maori language stuff. The streaming over the internet idea is the way to go, everyone who lives in this century at least has access to it.

It is a little ironic that the advertising banner in the middle of this thread is for 'Get Foxtel'.

XY - advertising is at target audiences - it is not uncommon for forums to have ads displayed that relate to certain topics/posts/keywords. Not sure if this is the case (Isaac?), but considering there have been a few 'ironic' adds in posts I dare say so.

Contextual advertising, yes.

As for live streaming - NBA don't even do it AFAIK - they partner with TV networks. Who's going to pay for it at NBL level? Bandwidth in Australia is quite expensive and I'd imagine there'd be a reasonable amount required to get footage up and out to fans.

I'd rather see a combo live boxscore/playlist/radio thing.

We have been working for the last few months to get livestreaming up for SEABL and QBL, our website is still in the building stages, but we have a link to a test page where you can watch games live or in archives every week, they are free ATM but will incur a small charge in the future. The linke are - and
You need to download Adobe flashplayer 10- its free,to watch games. our site will be www.courtlive.net

LA Boy are you some sort of TV industry expert??

Foxtel is only in a certain percentage of households. OneHD probably has a bigger broadcast market now than Foxtel. OneHD will certainly have a bigger reach by the time the season starts..
