3, Mills is committed. He missed his chance to pull out of the draft a couple of weeks ago. I think he should have gone around one more time with St Mary's as well. He'll get picked up, but looking almost certain to be 2nd round, which means no guarantees in his contract.

Minny are very frustrating. I'm still a big fan of Al Jefferson, so I was hoping they would draft well to get him an exciting suppporting cast.

I really hope they have a good deal up their sleeve, because a backcourt of Rubio and Flynn is just ridiculously undersized.

I was originally hoping they would trade up for Harden and then find a PG like Curry with the #6.

Switching for Tyreke might be a good option for Minny, but doubt that was planned in advance, because straight after Minny took Rubio and Flynn, Kahn said he planned on keeping both. If there was already a deal in place with a team that had picked, I don't think he would have said that.

Blair is a great rebounder and inside scorer in college, and is 6'7", 265lbs. You know, just like Danny Fortson was.

Fortson was better than Blair in college, and decent in his first few years in the NBA, but then got exposed once he didn't expand his game. I like Blair (I'm a Pittsburgh fan), and hopefully he can do something beyond what he's shown so far, or else he won't be anything but an undersized (height wise) big man role player in the NBA.

If there's doubts about his knees (when he's not an amazing athlete for his size to begin with), then it's no suprise IMO that he's dropped this far.

Whoever was advising Mills should be shot - Blind Freddy could see this was a draft massively heavy in PGs and his workouts were by most accounts less than impressive. He should have gone back to school - now, no guarantees. Very disappointing.

Disappointing for Mills and Aussie ball so far. I would love to know why he decided to stay in the draft. Was he promised first round and screwed? Did he fall on draft day for some unexpected reason? Or did Patty just feel he wanted/ needed to make some cash now and so decided to go professional regardless?

Reply #241396 | Report this post

KingJames
Years ago

I think hindsight is a wonderful thing.

However, if Mills went back to college its not guaranteed he would have done better in college then he did this season. He could have suffered a massive injury killing his career. His college kind of sucks so he would continue to get limited exposure. They are all variables he would have weighed up and he would have been expecting to have been in the first round year so to me he made the right decision but was just unlucky.

I believe this will make Mills even more determined to prove him self so it could be for the best!

Tough to see a good fit for Mills right now. Perhaps the Lakers could still take him with their 2nd rounder? Detroit or Charlotte are also possible, but Mills would be behind younger guys, rather than behind an ageing superstar who he could learn from.

Reply #241409 | Report this post

Annex1
Years ago

Well so much for the San Antonio and Brett Brown theory.

And as far as Mills going back into college and getting hurt etc - that already happened, remember? You can talk all you like about risk and whatever, but the fact is clear - this was a PG heavy draft and he wasn't seen at this time as a genuine floor leader at the next level. Maybe we've all overrated him as well, but nonetheless, a year in college developing his PG skills would have done him nothing but good IMO for his future prospects.

This was a gigantic mistake by Mills and whoever was advising him, no ifs and buts about it.

Beantown, just on whether Mills could go back to college - if he didn't hire an agent and went undrafted, he actually could have gone back. He wouldn't have been able to enter another draft, but as Randpolh Morris did, could have played NCAA and been an NBA free agent, able to sign with a team at any time.

Gotta feel sorry for Mills, but you'd think he will find a spot on a roster.

They have Steve Blake, Sergio Rodriguez, Jerryd Bayless at PG, and the Brandon Roy spends alot of time at the Point.

Shin Splints - pretty sure I heard Rodriguez was traded earlier. I said 'might be okay' because there weren't really any good places left for him to land at the point. Its not great for him, but what I like is that Blake is not seen as the long-term solution and Bayless does not seem to have won the Blazers coaching staff over yet - he is also not a true PG. So Patty will have to work hard, but I see him as having some chance, because he can offer a different skill set to the team.
