China beats Boomers, 84-78

Depspite winning the rebound count 36-20, Australia fell to China 84-78.

China defeated Australia's men's basketball team, the Boomers, by six points in Beilun overnight in the first of two international friendlies, 84-78.

Toronto Raptors forward Nathan Jawai top scored for Australia with 14 points to go with 8 rebounds while Gold Coast Blaze guard James Harvey, who was named Captain of the Boomers for the tour prior to the game, added 12 points and 4 rebounds.

Townsville Crocodile Peter Crawford had an outstanding defensive game and finished with 9 points.

it's a very inexperienced team, not sure about the chinese team obviously, plus goorjian would have helped the opposition immeasurably. I think harvey is a good choice as captain, goorjian was never going to pick him while he was coach and I think he always deserved more opportunity than he got.

Here's a question: would the current Australian team beat the 2000 USA team if they played now. I'd say not, they have duncan, garnett, kidd, carter etc

Harvey played in the European tour Prior to the Olympic games and played in 1 or 2 of the iran series here at home as the side was being selected so to suggest BG wouldnt pick him is incorrect.

Yeh but he played about 2 mins per game against Iran. Goorjian's mind was obviously made up before that series.
