R16 ABL Action - winners, grinners, sinners

All Sat night games this round:
Flames-Warriors @ Mars
Tigers-North @ Siberia South
Sabres-Mavs @ The High School
Lions-Panthers @ Siberia North
Eagles-Bearcats @ Dogshow Hall

Women:
Flames need to win to press to get into 5. Should get the W, but no certainty as the Warriors defend a fast finishing Lions outfit from the wooden spoon.
Last home game for the Tigers, North need to win. Will be a hard game, but North more desperate. A win means the coach shouts Maccas on the drive home.
Mavs to have a long drive home from Pasadena.
Panthers should win the battle of the big cats, but Lionesses have broken the drought - will it be a flood?
Eagles-Bearcats is top of the table clash, so should be a goodie. 8 point win to Westies last game. Down to the wire in the final quarter.

Men:
Flames to get the double W in R16.
Tigers-North is the men's match of the round. North have everything to lose, Southern everything to win. Southern to end the night in a bang, and while the women get Maccas shouted to them, it could be a long trip home for the men.
Sabres should consolidate the top position.
The battle of the big cats should be a home win, if the home team plays some D. Over 100 points scored off them in 11/15 games with 6/15 in offence means more hustle on court if you want to finish fifth.
Eagles-Bearcats to be a nail biter! With the home team being LLL in the last 3 and a roster resembling a Sixers bench, they need to win this to get some cred. At the start of the season, someone commented that all Davo needed to do to win a flag was call the subs. It's not that easy.... Bearcats came back strong last week and reckon might even steal the W from the Feagles if they are not careful...

With so many tight games, reckon the winners will be grinners this week

Flames-Warriors @ Mars
Women: Norwoodd need to win and will comfortably.
Men: After what West did to the Warriors, I fear for what the Flames are going to do, Norwood by plenty, will be good to see Webber v Wilson though!

Tigers-North @ Siberia South
Women: Time for the Rockets to start peaking and after a good win last round will get the Tigers by over 10.
Men: Massive game, if Erik plays, Rockets will win, if he doesn't, it's a toss of the coin.

Sabres-Mavs @ The High School
Women: How will the hills girls respond to a loss to the Lions? Sabres easily.
Men: Won't be as big of a beating as many would expect, entertaining match up but Sturt will win by 20+

Lions-Panthers @ Siberia North
Women: The Lions winning streak will stop at one.
Men: Will be an intense, up tempo game, South have a big advantage inside if Carlin doesn't play but the Lions have the edge in the back court with Cioffi, Clarke, Atkins and Todd. Central to keep the playoff dream alive

Eagles-Bearcats @ Dogshow Hall
Women: If this game is half as good as the last time they met then it should be a ball tearer. Eagles in just a bit better form and West will suffer loss number two.
Men: After Spadavecchia couldn't finish the Eagles off last time, all the mental edge goes to Forestville and the Eagles will bring their A game for this one and get the points.

it is a big loss but Andrew Bolton seems to have grabbed the opportunity with both hands, one game mind you but doubled his yearly minutes in that game.
and tripled his stats

The mighty Norwood women flogged a rudderless, inept woodville by 70 odd points. The sooner woodville fold the better it will be for the comp.

Mavs had a NOT-so-long drive home, losing by 13 vs Sturt after the shock loss last week.

South beat Centrals.

Forestville beat West... is the dream start beginning to turn into a horror finish? West lacking form at the business end?

No team has scored over 129 on sporting pulse records

In 2004, Sturt and North both scored 125 against centrals
also in round 9 that year south beat southern 123-56. Probaby the most comparable.

Foley was back this round and what a difference she had, just the spark she gave the team was so noticable.

Well thats a few games just in 2004, so I would expect that there has been higher score than 130 at some point.

Other mens results??

Any talk on eagles women beating west? how ? why?

Men results

Sturt over Mavs by 13
North over Southern by 18
Norwood over Woodville by 19
Eagles over West by 19
Lions over South by 1

Lions most men's wins in sometime, 2004 was 6, it is now 7 with 2 games to go.

Would suggest the final 5 is just about set. North (8 & 8) would need to be slaughtered at Marion next week for Lions (7 & 9) to get a sniff.
A win next week will seal the deal for the Rockets as a WW for the Lions will get the level of points, but Rockets finish on %.
Norwood, bouyed by the Coops signing, will be difficult for the plucky Lions to overcome at Marden next week. Another buzzer beater coming up?
Tigers (6 & 10) are out of finals action this season and can only look to pester the Feagles and the Bearcats in the remaining two games.

when two teams finish equal on win/loss it has nothing to do with %, it goes on head to head clashes. Centrals play north in the last game and all ready own the split by beating them at starplex, if they tie on win loss the Lions will take 5th.

for Lions to make it

they win win both of their last 2 (flames/rockets)

or if they drop the norwood hame and north drops south, the winner of the last game at Hillcrest takes 5th.

now that would be a sweet game of the week.

either way it may come down to the last game of the round Lions v Rockets for 5th spot.

wonder if Easy will play his week?

go panthers I say, love to see Lions beat North in the last week to finish 5th.

Fiba rules and regulations

http://www.fiba.com/downloads/Rules/2008/OfficialBasketballRules2008.pdf

classification of teams page 68.

D.1.1 If there are two teams in the classification with equal points, the result(s) of the
game(s) between the two teams involved will be used to determine the placings.
D.1.2 If the points and the goal average in the games between the two teams are still the
same, the classification will be determined by the goal average of all the games
played in the group by each team.
D.1.3 If more than two teams are equal in the placing, a second classification will be
established, taking into account only the results of the games between the teams
that are tied.
D.1.4 If there are still teams tied after the second classification, then goal average will be
used to determine the placing, taking into account only the results of the games
between the teams still tied.
D.1.5 If there are still teams tied, the placing will be determined using the goal average
from the results of all their games played in the group.
D.1.6 If, at any stage, using the above criteria, a multiple team tie is reduced to a tie
involving only two teams, the procedure in D.1.1 and D.1.2 above will be applied.
D.1.7 If, at any stage, it is reduced to a tie still involving more than two teams, the
procedure, beginning with D.1.3 above, is repeated.
D.1.8 Goal average will always be calculated by division.

As south beat Norwood 2 times they will finish ahead of Norwood if the games are the same, If South beats north Norwood advance on head to head over north, if North beats south then North Advance on head to head over south

so for norwood to advance to finals south must beat north and the flames must beat centrals and the sabres

for north to advance to finals they must beat south and Centrals? (it think that is their opponent)

for south to advance they must win one of their games against North or woodville

Placings are in the air depending on results and scores

Is this the tightest season for a while?

Can't remember so many ifs and buts for ages.

Would be good if it got down to final games in both the mens and womens comps. It's healthy to have all teams of a similar strength - it's too boring if it was too predictable.

It would seem more likely that sturt or norwood will miss out.

If sturt lose to west and norwood win the final round match between Sturt and norwood will determine the final spot. Norwood would need to win by 13+ to advance.

However if north lose they will fall behind norwood if they go undefeated. Will be an interesting last round. Only West and Eagles are safe. South should make it comfortably

The key game will be North South, if North win (and they have been hot lately) then Norwood gets knocked out of finals, if that happens I doubt very much that Foley and Duke play round 18 with their upcoming WNBL committments, without Foley and Duke there is no chance that the young flames beat Sturt. If South beats North then Norwood is into finals and will most likely have Sturt in the first round as well as round 18.

This of course is dependant on a win in round 18 for South (vs. Woodville) and North (vs. Centrals)

if sturt lose their last 2 games and norwod win their last two games and they beat sturt by more than 13 norwood will get in

but if north lose one of their last 2 games they will also be tied with sturt and norwod (if the above occurs)

and if south lose their last two games and all the above happens then we will have a 4 way tie

interesting last two rounds
