Sixers Court Announcer

Awesome effort by the sixers.

First game was a good show, but i have to say that a huge downside was the guy walking around with the microphone.

I was disappointed with him. His voice lacked any sort of oomph/gusto, and he lacked any type of charisma.

Also not to sure about his basketball knowledge, as he didn't seem to grasp the differences in moods of the game, or the need to ramp up his own team as he announced them, giving the sixers a similar toned introduction to that he gave to NZ.

How can you miss a player from the team you are the home announcer for, Poor Brad Hill might take that personally.

My advice would be to bring back the same man we have had wandering around the court for the last few seasons, and similarly, use the actual courtside announcer behind the desk for the team intros... He has a great grasp on tempo, and much prefer his introductions.

I appreciate the teething and nerves of a first game. But I'm just not sure he's the man for the current job?

i like how he said to Dee Brown "thanks dude" personally was not a big fan but its pretty low on my things that bother me list. As Ritz said if we win that's all that matters.

I think the old guy gotta promotion from the sixers
so he must've been good (doing some other work for them) The sound from mic was was good, very clear.

(They must've given out about 2,000 ice coffees, on our way out.)

Thought the the announcer was ok, although very poor that he skipped announcing Hill. Also though that he could have introduced Ballinger as our new captain when he was announced, although he always gets a big cheer anyway

courtside announcer did the captain thing for balls when he announced starting 5 just before the game started.

Agreed. Absolutely terrible. I honestly thought it was a pre-season game. It lacked any real intensity and the guy on the mic destroyed any hype or excitement. Last season they had bmx riders and skate boarders for opening night, very disappointing entertainment spectacle on the whole last night.

I thought the court announcer was better than the previous one but the merchandise looked cheap and nasty. The uniforms are like training gear.

I didn't think he was too bad,
the only thing i noticed was that he kept trying to put down all of the half time shooters.....really not sure why he was trying to do that except maybe to get a cheap laugh.

If we're talking about merchandise, $80 for a jersey made by a school uniform manufacturor is pretty bad. Would've got one for $50.

The new 750ml Iced Coffee stubbys made up for the lack of Strong IC.

Saw Rowey in the crowd, maybe he wants to be the announcer, lol.

Unfortunately Bonz (the previous roving commentator) is now the Promotions Manager and that takes up a bit more time on game night. Bonz was excellent on the court and actually had a feel for the game. Not sure who the new roving commentator is, but, they certainly need to get someone who actually knows what is happening, and to actually be able to read a team list when introducing players. If it's the visiting team who cares but missing the home team is pretty poor IMO.

I thought he did a good job - first game and all.

I gave him a bit of crap mid way through the game about leaving Hill out of the intros. He showed me the sheets he was given and Hill wasn't even on his players list, and I could tell he felt pretty crap when he found out.

Overall they're early season teething problems, and we left with a win, plus I thought the atmosphere was great. Let's see how we go keeping it up, without making a presentation to Brett Maher.

Give him a go people, Strike 1 if you wish, but he'll do well - just a few nerves I reckon with the pressure, after all have a look at the shite he's coped on here!

My wife and I struggled to make out a lot of what the court announcer was saying, but I noticed that a couple of other people on here said they could hear fine. Might be the location? We were only row K, but perhaps being in the SW corner might be worse than other areas? Anyway, my vote would be for a little more volume from the announcer, but not a big deal. Had a great night overall!

at the end of the day though, experience counts for everything. and how do u get experience? by doing it! last year the sixers blooded a new court announcer. a bit shakey to begin with and even on here at first questions were asked about... but i thought he showed just how far he had come on saturday night. and can only get better and better with the more games he does. and the same will be for the new roving announcer. i know its probably alot to ask but be patient, be positive and encouraging and he will come good. :-) GO SIXERS!!

I thought he was okay, but not great. But yeah, agreed its a tough gig, its a hard job to rev up a crowd while having to announce admin stuff too.

On Murray the Magpie, I felt he added nothing. I also felt he cheapened Maher's ceremony. He's just annoying and does nothing to get the crowd into the game. Why have him?

If he's not there, some people complain. I figure he's there for kids and he might not be so annoying for them.

Sheez, give the guy a break. It was his 1st night.

A seasoned announcer might have picked up that Brad Hill was missing and added him in but the poor guy was obviously so nervous that he was probably reading from the sheet.

It would be a tough gig; on for a few seconds at a time and needed to make an immediate impact...not a job for me thanks.

He will do better this Friday....OR SACK HIM!
