Last night saw the Aussie Showdown between Ingle's CB Granada and Matt Nielsen's Valencia. It was a disappointment both from the perspective of the one sided nature of the contest, an 82-65 drubbing of Granada by Valencia, and also of the performance of the two Boomers.
Ingles tried to get it done from outside all match but the shots were not dropping. He returned figures of 1-2 2pt, 1-7 3pt and 2-3FT for 7 pts with 1 board and 1 steal. The one time he did drive, he made a beautiful 'and one'. It made me wonder why he did not try it more.
Nielsen scored 2-3 2pt, 1-2 3pt for 7 pts with 4 boards, 5 assists, 1 block and 1 steal. A good result from limited looks but his effectiveness was ironically reduced as Ingles drew his third and fourth fouls in quick succession, forcing him from the floor.
To rub salt in the wound, Ingles was called for a foul in the final three minutes for setting an illegal screen to Victor Claver's elbow with his jaw. I believe he lost a tooth in the clash and had to leave the floor immediately.
This was the Ingles that showed up in the second match in the Oceania series. As his experience grows, I hope we will see the Ingles of Game One on a more consistent basis.
