Worthington named NBL Round 16 POTW

Worthington's efforts were nothing short of amazing in his two games this round. The man known as 'Wortho’ hit some huge shots against the Breakers which helped the lower-seeded Tigers rally from a 17-point last quarter deficit to record a stunning 94-89 road victory. Worthington finished with an impressive 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting and also added eight rebounds, one assist and one steal. He hit 3-of-6 three-pointers, one of them coming at a crucial part of the game and sparking the Tigers’ monster final period run.

His form carried over to Melbourne’s next game at home to the Adelaide 36ers. Worthington was again nothing short of outstanding, contributing 24 points and six rebounds, 14 of those points coming in the first quarter. He shot 7-of 15 from the field and made four shots from downtown. His three blocks on defence further demonstrated his versatility on both ends of the floor.
Worthington’s teammate Chris Anstey also came very close to snaring the award in Round 16. After an injury kept him out of the first half of the season, Anstey was back to his brilliant best as he joined Worthington to help extend Melbourne’s win streak to a season-best four games. Anstey’s 24 points and seven rebounds against the Breakers, which included three successive three pointers in the final three minutes, helped the Tigers to a crucial road victory. The seven-foot Tigers star and former NBA player also had 17 points and nine rebounds against Adelaide on Saturday night.
Other players in consideration for the weekly award in Round 16 included Ayinde Ubaka (Gold Coast), Tony Ronaldson (New Zealand), Kirk Penney (New Zealand), Adam Ballinger (Adelaide), Damian Martin (Perth), Darren Ng (Adelaide), Anthony Petrie (Gold Coast), Glen Saville (Wollongong), Cortez Groves (Adelaide), Rich Melzer (Cairns), Julius Hodge (Melbourne), Dusty Rychart (Cairns), Luke Schenscher (Perth) and Matt Campbell (Wollongong).
