Oklahoma City Thunder - any new fans?

Anyone else liking Oklahoma City as their second NBA team - a bit like how a lot would be liking Wollongong this year in the NBL? They're 30-21 including 15-11 on the road which is a better road record than a fair few notable teams including Orlando.

Besides Durant, who's still young, they're a team devoid of big-name stars. The highest paid players are Etan Thomas ($7m) and Nick Collison ($6m). All of their major contributors (bar Krstic) are virtually rookies.

The coach has all of two years experience as head NBA coach. They're spending $58m which is third cheapest in the league (Lakers $91m and Knicks $85m as a comparison).

Durant is on a big scoring streak of 25+ point games and the team is on a six game winning streak.

1. How are they getting it done?
2. Anyone else becoming a bit of a fan given what they're achieving with such a young and cheap roster?

How have they got there??? Two words....

Sam Presti.

Made some very smart trades using his free cap space to aquire talent without having to give back talent, and building a great collection of 1st round draft picks.

Some credit has to go to Scott Brooks and his development of Durant, Westbrook, Harden and Green.

Always been a fan of Collison (I wanted the Cats to trade for him pre-season).

Live or replay?

I recorded the live showing on IQ2 and it was fine...

I still miss the original Seattle Supersonics, but I'm a big fan of Durant, he's performing. They have other young talent in the team.

They are one of the big surprises this season. More successful than I thought I'd see.

The reason they win, IMHO, is that they play hard all game. If you watched the couple of their games lately, if a player isn't going hard, Brooks takes him out. And their deep too. Not star quality throughout but good a long way down the bench.

Westbrook is a freak though, he had some awesome dunks last year. Huge vertical leap.

I've had a rough few years trying to find a team to support since the Sonics went down. The Thunder are definitely growing on me, and finally being able to see them on TV (sooo sick of Lakers / Spurs / Celtics / Cavs) makes me like them even more.

On a side note, ONE is doing a good job of showing "other" teams, I was very happy to see the Thunder v Hawks the other day, even though it was a rubbish game.

yeah even though their uniforms an logo are terrible to look at they are fun to watch, KD is a superstar waitin for the rest of the world to notice. It would be awesome if the Sonics were still around but thats the NBA i guess. An it just goes to show $$$$ doesn't make a good NBA team like everyone thinks, give the thunder a few more yrs an they can make everyone notice
