Hawks vs Crocs, Game 1

If Adelaide can't win it then I hope the Hawks can go all the way! Do it for Saville, Campbell and Cooks!

Here's the box score for those who completely forgot about the game (e.g., me): Hawks 87, Crocs 68

Hawks were up 50-26 by half-time.

Check out Larry Davidson's statline - outrageous:

17 points, nine rebounds, five assists, three steals, seven blocks. In 30:54 on court. At 75% too.

Go back a season or so and word was that Larry was the sullen type, hardly improving morale on teams. But Gordie is really getting the best out of him.

Great to see Hawks play the style we should be. Team first. Would be good to see them go all the way

As I said earlier in the week, Larry D is my most improved player, centre on the All-NBL 1st team and PF on the All-Defensive team. He's had an outstanding year.

Larry finally pulled his head out of his ass and started to play to his potential. He has just been going through the motions since he's been in the league. Hawks are going to be tough to play and Geordie is the main reason. A good coach will get the most out of his players.

A Good coach???! A great coach. Lets see....given 75% of the salary cap, (your best player gets injured, and is out for the season? bad luck! you will just have to suck it up and continue on with out him as we will not budge on the budget) So effectively he is coaching now with a roster spending 65% of the cap. Please note that if this happen to any other coach in the league except Cairns and maybe Adelaide their import would have been replaced...no question.
I have heard that Gordie and his two assistants are the best at video analysis, they practice the longest, their strength and conditioning coach is David Boyle (current Waratahs S&C coach and ex State of Origin player, so you could imagine how their weights sessions are) and to top it all off they all have simply no ego's. For Glesson to come out and say that the Hawks had 2nd spot 'handed' to them, was insulting and ignorant to a man who has coached rings around him and everyone else in the league all year.
A good coach....A Great coach....C.O.T.Y.

Finals basketball is totally different to regular season. Defensive intensity and pressure of the occassion make scoring difficult. It's all about composure, being patient, being smart.
Hawks are really showing their mettle.
Crocs are erratic and paying the price. Might get one at home but they are on a 2 game hiding streak.

If Hawks win the title it will be mostly with an all Australian squad. Big reason for their success is Larry Davidson.

Eric Cooks needs to be congratulated here just as much as Gordie.
Cooks put together this team 3 years ago paying up to 75% less than what the other teams had on the floor.

Cooks recruited Trigger from Brisbane after he had played 20 minutes the entire season, Cooks recruited Larry Davidson after Gordie had a quite a large public fall out in Singapore. Cooks recurited Rhys martin, Twayne McKee, Tim Cooenrad, got Sav back and kept playing Matty C.
Its too bad Petrie left last year but Hawks still can't match any other teams salary.

the past 3 seasons the Hawks have been hit by bad luck with injuries (and this year losing MVP in McKee) and have struggled to win games.
A healthier team this year and how good do they look! Well when you have a core of 6 players playing together for 3 years you are going to be competitive every night.

Gordie didn't want Trigger and definitely didn't want Larry back but Cooks said they had to stay ....and thats what's makes great coaches...listen, don't be ignorant and always want to learn.

'The Juice' stop talking shit mate, Granted Cookie and the other ac (Flinn I think) have done a great job, but you are way off the mark.

Cooks recruited Kavossy who was a major problem in terms of chemistry, and failed with Peter's, Reyes and a disjointed defensive system....watch the games mate, they are playing a completely different style of hoops compared to last few years.

I am sure that it was not cooks alone who recruited McKee.
