HSH - Was it worthwhile?

Hello to all...
I thought I would spark some more chatter about HSH after some time has passed and everyone is gearing up for edition 2 of the 'new' NBL.

After the Elite Classic what have players been able to move onto?

11 Yusuf Qaafow - Will be a DP on the Tigers roster.
12 Daniel Dillon - Signed with the Snakes in favor of an offer from his hometown Tigers.

12 Troy Jackson - Plenty of talk about the Snakes showing interest but nothing eventuated.
23 Willie Farley - Marty wont give all the SA natives their wish.
21 Chris Goulding - Got a wake up call by missing out on the Boomers but will be hungry to bring some showtime to the Coast and continue his development.
24 Luke Schenscher - Arrived early in the ville to curb last years efforts. Is now about to start in the NBA Summer League.
22 Oscar Forman - Geordie to this stage has Oscar as his marquee signing at the gong. Obviously one import to follow.
32 Jeremiah Trueman - Caught the eye of the reigning champs and secured another shot. He wont leave anything to chance, all hustle.

11 Kevin Lisch - Had a bit of a rest and is back in Perth now.
13 Peter Crawford - Playing in the WA State League and missed out on the Boomers.
33 Tony Ronaldson - Played his last professional game last weekend in NZ unfortunately for him losing the final. Great career.
10 Damien Martin - Suited up in the WA State League and showed some grit for the Boomers which may get him a berth.
15 Adam Gibson - Boomers and obviously back at the Blaze.
20 Brad Hill - Gearing up for his make or break year in Adelaide
24 Ben Allen - Not only signed for the Crocs but played for Australia since the tourney... WOW, thanks JVG

14 Graeme Dann - Impressive form led to a Kings call up. Will he stand up against the big boys?
10 BJ Carter - Missed out on the Kings although like Farley the locals gave it a fair push to their respective clubs management.
25 Jordan Dodman - Looking to get a chance back at the 6ers.

15 Rashard Tucker - Got to NZ to finish off the season and played for the eventual runners-up. Talk on citizenship has dried up.
22 Galen Young - Went and played with a team in Canada.
13 Brad Williamson - Was able to get another year at the Swamp. Needs a good year or its curtains.
14 Julius Hodge - Wrote alot of blogs about nothing with any substance and wont be at Melbourne (mark my word)

23 D'Lancy Carter - The man who is no D and all, well... not very good.
10 Mike Helms - Went on to NZ to finish off the season, but no bites downunder.
11 Bennett Davison - The one that many talked about but doubted he would get a chance. The story out of the HSH you would say, a 34 year old coming back 10 years after his initial visit to suit up for the Blaze.
15 Sean Lampley - Hoped his Tigers would want to revist the glory of their last championship but missed out with bigs everywhere.
13 Kevin Ratzch - Kings second import spot came down to Grizzard and Ratzch. Will find his way back to Europe.

10 Mark Bradtke - Hopefully the Tigers get Hogey down as a specialist coach to work on Nevill. Oh did I mention he doesnt mind talking about post players on one hd?
5 Tony Danridge - Playing in the Drew League in LA alongside a number of NBA players including Derozen, Jennings,Mayo.
23 Corey "Homicide" Williams - Was dumped and will land in Europe despite the Taipans doing plenty of talking after his dismissal.
7 John Rillie - Off to the states to be an assistant as Boise State. We will miss the blog updates on his site.

13 Todd Blanchfield - Despite the reports of laziness and the alarm not waking him the Crocs are hoping to see his day 1 form from the event.
15 Blogoj Janev - The Kings said come on down because we need a big fella.
4 Stephen Hoare - Joey in the building proved to give Sneaky another pit stop. He will be great for them.

So in conclusion out of 80 odd players who had a run for the event, to date their are 18 of the players definite starters for the new season with maybe Tom Daly and another one here of there which are maybes. Some players used it to show what they can do in a more open landscape while others did pick up a job or extend their careers.

All in all next year will only get bigger and better...

Great write up

I enjoyed the HSH and the concept and am all for it continuing if the sponsors and organisers can continue to bank roll it.

It gives players an opportunity to present there game to clubs; lets the fans see different players and I feel the competition will only grow in terms of crowd support.

The more of these types of tournments the better for basketball in this country

I think most people agree whilst there were some areas for improvement, overall it was good for basketball.

Good write up, good to see JR getting a coaching gig, thought it would be at Gonzaga though!

Boise State is pretty good though, he can have a look at pics of Billy Fikes dunking on heads ha ha..

Boise State is also now in the Mountain West Conference, so he is actually coaching now in a far stronger conference.

are you seriously suggesting that Ben Allen is in the Australian team because of the way he played at the tournament. pretty sure that the players playing in the NBL would have been playing in the NBL regardless of the HSH.

Definitely worthwhile for fans who got to see more basketball on free TV. Not a bad opportunity for players either although I think Davison and Ratzch were the only two to *really* benefit as others were already signed or going to be signed. I'm aware of new people interested in a franchise, so it can't have been a disaster for owners.

The attendance needed improving. All the fan-fare (music etc) and the player intros looked poxy when there's no one applauding.

The games themselves were quite good; but terrible advertising. A short "Steve Carfino" ad on ONE-HD was a start, but didn't do much. Local Media needs to hammer the games during the news.

An "annual" event would be great; hopefully there's an improvement 2nd time around.
