just watched the bit on channel 9. we obviously all knew about the 3 point line being stepped out but i didnt realise we were following the NBA with the no charge zone. i think this is going to be a awesome rule.

the reporter said that we are following the NBA rules, wasnt clear if it was referring to just the 3 point line and the no charge zone or are there other rule changes to?? the first that popped into my mind was whether we would have jump ball back in and 12 minute quarters.

or am i behind the times and is this all old news??

It is the new FIBA rules, some of which are similar to the NBA such as the extended 3 point line, new lane ways and the marking of the no-charge zone.

The no-charge zone is already in force, it is just the area being marked on the court to help in judging the call.

yeh i remember hearing the 3 point line was due to Fiba didnt realise about the no charge zone. a bit misleading for them saying that the NBL is following the NBA when its not.

Looked pretty good at the dome - as Clarke Ng Devries said - other teams have to come out a fair way to guard us, at the extended 3 point line - opening it up for drives and dunks - with a no charge area - will be a good game.

Why does a new 3 point line make people come out and defend you. If you are such a good shooting team you could play out there with the old line and still force them to come at you!!

Does this affect juniors??

There is also a new 24 second rule.

Defensive foul or foot violation in the back court the shot clock will be reset to 24.

Defensive foul or foot violation in the front court and the clock is 14 or above the clock will remain on that number (17 for example).

If the shot clock is 13 or under and there is a defensive foul or foot violation the clock will be reset to 14.

Any timeout in the last 2 minutes of the fourth quarter or extra perios the ball will now be advanced to the top of the 3 point line in the front court and not the half way line as in previous years.

New determination that if there is less than 3 tenths of a second remaining on the clock the only way a team can score is by tip in or direct dunk.

Video replay can now be used not only to determine whether a last second shot has been released but is now extended to if a shot is a 2 or 3 point basket.

And as stated above 3 point line extended, no charge rule on a driving player and the court markings.

HAPPY DAYS

won't come into effect in Australia we do not currently have the technology

I was stating just the new rules willis. But really, how hard can it be to have a feed directly to the scoretable from the broadcaster? It's not really about not having the technology it's about people wanting to provide the resource

we do have TV in australia but not all games are telecast. If you can't supply the direct, immediate replay so a decision can be made the rule IMO won't be utilised.

You can not expect fans, coaches, players and umpires to wait around to locate the person high up in the crowd with a video camera who currently tape the games to race down court side, find and replay the which may or may not have captured the incident, shot etc for the refs to make an immediate decision. Sure Sebastian if the resources are available at all venues use it but whilst it is hit an miss scenario it won't be IMO used

Hence why i just stated the rule changes and never made comment about what we were adopting. But its seriously shouldnt be that difficult

Saw the video replay in action during the NBA finals and the benefits of the review certainly proved their worth in several occassions, over ruling the initial call or confirming an unsited situation.

To cover the issues Willis and Sebastian raised, if it is to be introduced in Australia, it will require several cameras and a courtside review monitor and appropriate operators. Under the current financial restraints, it is unlikely that it will be introduced at non One-HD televised games due to cost, so would be highly unlikely to be introduced at all.
