Henare announces last NBL season

Foundation NZ Breaker Paul Henare has announced the upcoming Australian NBL season will be his last with the club.

Henare, 31, today unveiled what he called one of the toughest decisions of his basketball career - to leave the Breakers so he can head home to Hawke's Bay to spend more time with his family and launch a new career as a coach.

The gutsy and committed point guard confirmed he will take up a full-time coaching role with the Bay Hawks in the New Zealand NBL, ending a tumultuous week at the North Shore club that also saw star player Kirk Penney depart suddenly for a "dream" shot at the NBA.

Coach Andrej Lemanis felt Henare was a player often undervalued by those outside the organisation but certainly not by his peers.

"Pauli works hard every day, puts the team before himself and represents the club with distinction," said Lemanis.

canr believe he even made the NBL. Shocked he actually was paid money for playing Basketball when he was clearly terrible at it.

Wow he's only 31?

He actually had a really good year last year by Henare standards.

I have never been a fan but over the last few seasons I have grown to dislike him less mostly as he has sat on the bench while CJ and Braswll have shared his minutes.
Good passer, solid handles, can play D, Can't score at top levels
