Rule Clarification

Last night the Sixers were called for a backcourt violation in the dying seconds of the match, after Eddie Shannon was trapped and a jump ball was called. The Sixers had the direction arrow, therefore possession. They were called for the violation immediately after inbounding the ball.

Wouldn't the whistle negate the previos seven seconds?

No, a jump ball does not cause a reset.

Good decision by the Referee.

The sixers were even given 9 sec to get the ball before they actually blowed their whistle.

I agree with "I'll be there", Shannon appeared to get fouled yet no call.

Shannon was a very good signing for Adelaide, good attitude on the court and isn't scared to step up. Liked when he got shirty after getting fouled hard, no one likes a pussy

you have eight seconds to get the ball from back court to front court, whistle doesn't negate previous seven seconds. If Sydney had deflected the ball out court Adelaide still would have had one second to get it over half court line, both feet and ball in front court, not straddling the line etc. Jump ball, Adelaide possession via arrow, shot clock does not reset, jump ball deemed not to have happened ie, ball goes back to the team in possession of the ball. Adelaide still only has one second to get ball over half court.

Shannon was being mugged both before and after the jump-ball situation on both inbounds plays IMO.
