Lauren Jackson sustains serious achille injury

Melbourne's Herald-Sun reports that Lauren Jackson has sustained a serious enough acute achilles tendon injury for her to return home to Australia for treatment.

From the article:

Jackson, the reigning MVP in the American WNBA, was assessed at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra yesterday.

Basketball Australia chief executive Larry Sengstock expressed concern about Jackson's injury and said her return to Australia offered the the best chance of a speedy recovery.

"It is certainly a serious injury, and we will be working to ensure she gets it right so she can continue her illustrious career,' Sengstock said.

"She is getting treatment at the AIS, where some of the best sports medical experts are based, and who are also in direct contact with our Australian basketball team doctors.

"Once we have more information, she will be able to make a decision about her short-term future.'

Who cares about the Caps. I'm more worried about London 2012 and if there will be any lasting affects.

I think she should take 6-8 months off from the game to guarantee she wont have a recurring injury that could ruin her career. Achilles problems have a funny way of doing that. Will also be a chance for her to have a good physical and mental break, a 6 month break could pro-long her career by a couple of years.

AUSTRALIAN star Lauren Jackson has sustained yet another serious injury, but hopes to be back on court for the Euroleague Finals in April.
An achilles injury suffered while playing for Russian club Spartak Moscow last month will keep Jackson, 29, sidelined for up to three months.
