I thought it was not on for just tonight only due to swimming, but will resume once this event is over?

And they would have aired the game v.s. the Blakers!

What a terrible night not to air it!

Something is going on at One HD. They have been advertising distinctly non-sports shows lately including Black Gold (something about oil hunters) and Axe Men (a logging show) under the the heading "One Adventure", which seem to be being screened during prime time slots. I think the 24 hour sport channel will soon be gone.

The problem is that One HD gets very poor ratings. Of all the digital channels they are consistently in the bottom 2 or 3 of all the extra channels usually with an audience share of around 0.5%. Meaning during prime time hours 99.5% of people watching TV aren't watching One HD. Last week one night they only had an audience share of 0.3% which was even below both ABC 3 & ABC News 24.

Something's got to give. Lately the only night they get any sort of audience share is on Thursday nights which is their wrestling/MMA night. Even than they only get a share of 1.3%-1.5%.

For example Sunday night:

•Digital: GO won with a share of 4.8%, from Gem on 3.3%, 7TWO on 2.7%, 7Mate was on 2.6%, Eleven was on 2.1%, SBS TWO was on 0.8%, ONE and ABC 2, 0.7% each, News 24, 0.5% and ABC 3, 0.4%. The 10 digital channels had an FTA share of 18.6% in prime time last night. The digital shares last night ranged from 14.9% of FTA viewing in Sydney to 23% in Adelaide and 21.7% in Brisbane.

Last night:

•Digital: The 10 digital channels had a total share of FTA prime time share of 21.8%. 7TWO won with 5.0%, from Eleven on 4.0%, 7Mate and GO on 3.1% each, Gem on 2.5%, ABC 2 was on 1.5%, SBS TWO, 0.8%, News 24, 0.7%, ABC 3 and One with 0.6% each. The 10 channels had FTA prime time shares ranging from 19.3% in Sydney to 24.9% in Perth and 25.0% in Adelaide.

I think it's pretty clear that Packer is trying to turn it into a more all-round channel, we can only hope that most of the sports packages are held onto.

They started doing the Sunday Movies, some of which have a fairly loose connection to sports.

If we have to put up with some of this, but keep the NBA and other good sports, I'm content with that.

If packer changes one but doesnt kill it, thats almost a win considering the very real concerns that hes gonna completely axe it, which he may still do. Will be a nightmare for NBL and basketball fans in general, who have only had this great FTA coverage for a few years.

And a big problem with One HD for Ten is how much the channel costs them compared to all the other digital channels for their owners.

The vast majority of them pretty much fill up their extra channels with filler and old shows they already have the rights to. Ten has had to buy up the rights for a fair bit of sport to flesh out One HD.

Another factor that has me feeling glum about the future of One HD is that a rumour is Ten will only be getting one AFL game a week in the new AFL rights deal starting next year and Fox Sports (Packer!) will be getting five games a week AND will have exclusive rights to that Champions League competition involving the best teams outside of the AFL around Australia.

Looking back (as an Footy fan) Foxtel axed Fox Footy for Fox Sports 3 because Foxtel though it wasn't cost affective to have a 24 hour footy channel with only 3 games a week (what they were going to get) then 7 cracked and gave them 4, so Foxtel thought hey people didn't think we would get any games on Foxtel so they didn't bring it back. NOW THERE GETTING FIVE?!
